DEChub 900 (brand new) shipped with Hardware rev F, Rom rev v1.1.6 Firmware rev v2.2.1 DECserver 900TM DECrepeater 900TM DECrepeater 900TM DECbridge 900MX Aui - Transceiver cable ----------| or Aui - Easynet access to test | |Backbone 1 | Lanbridge 150 Aui(1)- Transceiver cable-----------| Aui(2)- Transceiver cable--------------| |Backbone 2 | | Customer Systems (VAX etc...) -----------------------| As I had ordered the DECserver 900TM without flashram I have been trying to downline load the server with NAS 1.3 from a node on the easynet without success. The server passes self-tests & points to the thinwire for loadhost s/w LED display indicates 4 waiting for downline load and eventually timesout with a 3, unable to locate loadhost. All LED's on the bridge are functioning normally. I have tried an mc ncp con via sva-0 phy addre, the target does not respond. As it transpires a colleague managed to loan me a DECserver 90TL which normally resides on the customer systems LAN as detailed above. The loadhost also resides on one of the customer systems and functions without problem. However when I installed the 90TL in the hub and connected the Hub to backbone 1 no MOP requests are seen and the server fails to load! My colleague was also unable to make a conn via circuit phy addre to the DECbridge 900MX!! Our next task was to prove that the physical connection was good so we connected the transceiver cable that hooks onto the DECbridge 900MX onto a DECserver 200 instead. The server downline loaded without problem from a loadhost that resides on one of the customer systems. We were unable to duplicate this test with a 90TL because we did not have a Thinwire - AUI Mau. I am also unable to try downline loading servers via the repeaters off the easynet because we have no UTP - AUI Mau's on site. Q 1) Can anyone comment on why the above should not work? Q 2) Has the hub shipped with the right level of firmware? Q 3) Are there any known reported bugs on the DECbridge 900MX which would affect the Hub from functioning normally? Q 4) How can I upgrade the firmware on the hub across the easynet? Q 5) Can anyone give me a pointer to a location for V3.0 firmware if it exists? Q 6) If the problem is I've got the wrong firmware why the hell is DEC shipping this out in brand new kit, and why not provide the correct version on diskette or tape with release notes explaining??!!!!!!!!!! In addition I have a more detailed postscript topology diagram if anyone would like to review it. Hope you can help. regards Al

I have managed to successfully downline load the DECserver 900 and 90 by using a DECbridge 90 in port 8 of the hub. So the problem directly relates to the DECbridge 900MX. I have tested access via the easynet and the customer LAN. cheers Al

al, Decbridge900Mx required V3.0.0 of HUBmanager (you are in V2.2.1)and Hubwatch V3.0 (Open-VMS VAX) to manage it. i think's ,you must have these pre-requis to start your installation Jean-Yves

Unless configured by HUBWATCH, all ports on the DB 900 are to the front panel. There is no default connection to the DEChub 900 thinwire segment. That's why a DB 90 works as it only connects to the thinwire and doesn't need HUBWATCH to tell it how to do that. dave |
