HI, Our customer is building a dual fiber backbone and the config is shown below: +-------+ | DEC | | 2100 | +-------+ | | Dual Ethernet connection +-------------+ +-------------+ | | +-------|-------+ +--------|------+ |R| |R| |A| |A| |R| |R| +------|9| |9| |G| |G| |9| |9|------+ Redudant | +----|0| |0| |E| |E| |0| |0|----+ | Fiber | | +--|F| |T| |N| |N| |T| |F|--+ | | network | | |+-|L| | | |T| |T| | | |L|-+| | | | | || | | | | |9| |9| | | | | || | | | | || | | | | |0| |0| | | | | || | | | | || +---------------+ +---------------+ | | || Same as LHS | | || | | || +---------------+ +---------------+ | |R| |D| |D| |D| |D| |R| To +-|9| |S| |S| |S| |S| |9| 4 DEChub |0| |9| |9| |9| |9| |0| with |F| |0| |0| |0| |0| |F| same |A| |L| |L| |L| |L| |A| config | | |+| |+| |+| |+| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | +---------------+ +---------------+ : : : : There are two redundant fiber network backbones. Each fiber backbone is built from linking one DECrepeater 90FL to four DECrepeater 90FAs which are installed on 4 DEChub 90s respectively on 4 different floors. The DEC 2100 systems are connected to two fiber backbones using two ethernet cards. The customer want to use HUBwatch for Windows to manage all the hub modules. There are altogether 10 DEChubs (five hubs for each backbone). 1. We suggest to put one DECagent 90 on the first DEChub of each backbone for the HUBwatch software. Does one DECagent can manage the five DEChub and their modules? 2. Do we need a DECbridge 90 on the first DEChub in order to manage all the DECrepeaters (90FA, 90FL, 90T) ? If needed, do we only need one DECbirdge 90 for managing the DECrepeaters on the other DEChubs of same backbone? 3. How many HUBwatch software licenses do we need in this case? Can we use only one PC with HUBwatch for Windows software for managing all the DEChubs and their modules on the two backbones? Feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks, Ken

>> 1. We suggest to put one DECagent 90 on the first DEChub of each backbone >> for the HUBwatch software. Does one DECagent can manage the five DEChub >> and their modules? Mostly. The DECagent cannot manage the remote DECrepeater 90FA modules without a DECbridge 90/90FL in each hub. There is no problem managing the DS90L+ modules in the remote hubs. >> 2. You do not need a DECbridge in the DECagent's hubs to manage the local repeaters (90FL and 90T). You will need a DECbridge in each remote hub in order to manage the 90FA repeaters. ...Roger... | |||||

>3. How many HUBwatch software licenses do we need in this case? Can we > use only one PC with HUBwatch for Windows software for managing all > the DEChubs and their modules on the two backbones? You need one HUBwatch license. HUBwatch will manage as many agents as you like, one at a time. As long as you have network connectivity between your pc and your hub, HUBwatch can talk to it. |
