Hello, I have a customer who has just purchased 150 new PC-NIC cards (not ours) to implement his new NWork - Hub 900s + Rep900TMs and standalone Rep90Ts (DETMR-AZ) with new 90TSs when they become available. We have found that his NICs do NOT work with the 90T modules, but DO with the 900TM modules : the PCs will just not talk (TCP/IP) unless they are connected to the 900TMs. Even using simple 3m patch cords to the repeater on a desk in front of two PCs, with both the 90T standalone or in a hub90. Are there any differences between the 90Ts and 900TMs ? What wil the 90TS be similar to - the 90T or the 900TM ? Any suggestions as to what the problem could be ? There doesn't seem to be any configurations on the modules that are relevant. Anyone seen this before? Thanks Michael

Not sure why there might be a problem with the 90Ts. I can tell you that the 90Ts and the 900TMs use completely different hardware designs, and that the 90TS will be the same as the 900TM... using the newer design. | |||||

There is a lot of discussion in the ETHERNET conference on problems with various NICs. The DECrepeater90C and 90T seem to be less tolerant of poor clocks on adapters (the repeaters are strict about the spec, not all NICs are). The 900TM is more forgiving. If you're having this problem, you should see short packets working and longer ones failing (the crossover varies). |
