1139.0. "Decserver90L in DEChub900" by PADNOM::PEYRACHE (Jean-Yves Peyrache Country Support Group France) Tue Jun 21 1994 13:32

  hi,

 using Hubmanager V3.0.0 a DECserver90L (V3.1) works correctly under hubwatch
 or directly in the Dechub900, but appears as unkown module in LCD display
 on front-panel of the DEChub900.

 in fact during the startup of Hubwatch the module appears in "broken state"

  as new version of Hubmanager clears this situation ???

 thanks for any comments

    Jean-Yves,

    the DECserver 90L does not respond to backplane queries of 'who are u'.
    only Rev B units of the DECserver 90L+ will respond correctly.

    The 90L+ was relayed out as a part of a valued engineering effort. the
    ability of reading the queries and responding was added to the hardware
    at that time. while rev A and rev B 90L+s will run the same code
    ( currently 5.4) only rev B boards will respond.

    regards,

No, unfortunately no update (short of hardware) to any firmware will make this
go away. The DECserver 90L and early DECserver 90L+ modules are undiscoverable,
that is they do not respond to queries on the hub's backplane management
channel. Newer DECserver 90L+ modules (containing BL5.4 ROMs and shown by
HUBwatch as a DECserver 90L+2) do respond on the backplane and will show up as
DECserver 90L+ in the hub LCD display.

Oops, notes collision.
1139.4Hardware Rev B02 or C02 ONLY !!!NPSS::JOHNSONMike J., Network Products SupportTue Jun 21 1994 20:108
Re .1, Keith is correct that this is revision sensitive. However, the revs he
lists are not quite correct. NO rev of the DS90L (DSRVD) will respond and
only revs B02 and C02 of the DS90L+ (DSRVG) will. Note that what is important
is the "02" portion of the revision. Neither B01 nor C01 have the necessary
hardware, but both B02 and C02 DO !!!
