Hi,
MY customer want to upgrade the DB900MX to V1.2.1 (get it from DCF010),
the
image is DEFBA121.BIN, but we cannot get it works.
Follow is our procedures:
1) Setup In-BAND address for DEChub900 (e.g. SLOT 7) and the IP address
of the DB900MX.
2) Try to setup In-BAND IP address for DB900MX via re-direct
function, but we got 'no room for IP address, IP address not set.', so
we try to use the HUB's IBMM address to perform the upgrade.
3) We can upgrade the HUBmanager from V2.2 to V3.0 bvis DECnduplus.
4) When w try to upgrade DB900MX from V1.1.2 to V1.2, we got error
TIME OUT on port (when we issued the folllowing:
DOWNLOAD LOAD /FORCE=HUBMANV2/MODULE=7 1.2.3.4 -
MOM$SYSTEM:DEFBA121.BIN
where DB900MX mounted on SLOT 7 of DH900 and 1.2.3.4 is the IBM ip
address of HUB900 (shown in display of HUB900 front panel).
We can get the version of HUB manager and DB900MX via NDUplus
usingDOWNLOAD SHOW DEVICE 1.2.3.4 - hubMANAGER
DOWNLOAD SHOW DEVICE /FORCE=CHASDESCR/MODULE=7 1.2.3.4
5) We also try to upgrade DB900MX via console port of HUB900, but
the DLU process timeout after aprox. 10 minutes.
I don't the log with me, but it seems to me that the NDUplus cannot
load to DB900MX ONLY (since we can upgrade DECagent 90 from V1.1 to
V2.1.3, HUBmanager from V2.2 to V3.0). My guess there may be problems
with DB900MX, since once I set the IBM ip address in HUBmanager, I
cannot set DB900MX IBM ip address (I can set another IBM IP address to
DB900MX), but when I ping these IBM IP address I get the same ARP
entries in UCX).
Could someone advise the 'correct' and workable procedures for
upgrading
DB900MX using NDUplus?
BTW, Port 3 is configured to Thinwire via COnsole manager.
Thanks in advance for help!

There are many entries about this problem. You MUST set an IP address
in the DB 900 and use the /FORCE=PCOMMON to load the bridge. Also
you must have the NDU system connected to the DB 900 either by Ethernet
or FDDI.
Explain "no room for IP address".
Check other notes for the complete command line.

re .1,
Thanks for your quick response!.
NDUplus system (VMS) is connected to AUI port of DB9000mX (port 2) and
I cannot set the same IP address of the IBM IP address of the
HUBmanager, since the HUB900 will use the IBM IP address of the
DB900MX, once I set the IBM for HUB, when I try to use the same address
for DB900MX, then I got 'no room for IP address'.
But if I use another IP address for DB900MX, then it accepted.
You mentioned that FORCE=PCOMMON, what is the IP address I should use?
And you I need module qualifier?
Could someone clarify the 'correct' procedures for setting DB900MX adn
HUB900 IBM IP address ?
Thanks again

| 1072.3 | upgrade of decbridge 900mx | ISIDRO::ELSA | Tue Jun 07 1994 02:59 | 28 | |
Hi,
Yesterday I make that you need, and I make of the following manner:
With a terminal on a setup port of the HUb900 and redirect to the
port that haves the Decbrige 900mx. Put IP in-band address to Decbrige
900mx.
Return to the machine that have Nduplus and make the following
command:
download load ip address of /force=pcommon
decbridge 900mx
If you have a community different of public then:
download load ip address of /force=pcommon community
decbridge 900 mx
It should be work for you.

When you assign an address to a module _and_ an In-Band address to the
Hub you must use two different addresses.
