1047.0. "HUBwatch V2.0 hangs at community screen" by ZPOVC::DAIV02::FUNGSIONG (Digital Indonesia - Networks) Tue May 31 1994 12:28

    Hi,

In Indonesia Office we have three DEChub 900MS at three floors.

    Floor 21:	DH900MS addr: 1.0.6.212
    		DR900TM addr: 1.0.7.21
    		3xDR90C
    		1XDR90FL
    Floor 20:	DH900MS
    		DR900TM
    		3XDR90C
    		1xDB90FL
    Floor 19:	DH900MS addr: 1.0.6.212
    		DR900TM
    		3XDR90C
    		1xDB90FL

Floor 19 and 20 is connected to Floor 21 using fiber optics
    through DR90FL and DB90FL.

I can manage the 19th Floor hub ok using HUBwatch (PC Address
192.9.200.199), but fail to see the Floor 21 hub. If I set the DR900TM
IP address to 1.0.21.7, I can manage the repeater 900TM ok.

What am I doing wrong? Each time I open HUBwatch screen, it will go to
the DH900MS at 21st, seems to pop up the community name, but waits
forever (I have to reboot). I am using TCP/IP stack from PATHWORKS v5.0
release (SSB) kit, and using SMC Cards (WD8013).

I can manage the DH900MS at 19th floor with no problem.

BTW, is there any plan to enable traffic monitoring on DR90Cs? Current
management capability is limited to "on/off" switch ...

    Thanks for any help.

    Rgrds,
    Fung Siong

1047.1Duplicate IP address?ROGER::GAUDETBecause the Earth is 2/3 waterTue May 31 1994 12:386
Fung,

According to your drawing you have the same IP address (1.0.6.212) for the
hubs on the 19th and 21st floors. This is not good!

...Roger...
1047.2No duplicate address, but does not work yetZPOVC::DAIV02::FUNGSIONGDigital Indonesia - NetworksWed Jun 01 1994 08:3615
    Sorry Roger,

The 19th floor DH900MS address is 1.0.6.192, whereas the 21st floor
is 1.0.6.212. BTW, I just changed the Winsock.dll using the latest
kit from PATHWORKS V5.0 patch. The hub screen now comes up but
the DH900MS at 21st floor cannot be managed. the status of
the DR900TM is ERROR in all fields!

Why does it work ok in 19th floor hub?
    Can't DR900TM without DB90FL manage DR90C/DR90FL?

    Any idea?

    Thanks,
    Fung Siong
1047.3More details pleaseROGER::GAUDETBecause the Earth is 2/3 waterWed Jun 01 1994 12:4914
Fung,

Some additional information would be helpful.

   1) What versions of firmware are running in the DH900MS and the DB90FLs? The
latest is V3.0.0 and V3.1 respectively.

   2) Where and how is the PC connected? Based on your first note, I made the
assumption that it is connected to the hub on floor 19 either through the
DR900TM or one of the DR90C's.

   3) What protocol filters, if any, are setup in the DB90FL's?

    RE: .-1

    Roger, to answer you questions:

       1) What versions of firmware are running in the DH900MS and the
DB90FLs? The latest is V3.0.0 and V3.1 respectively.

    		> DH900MS:

    			H/W Revision F
    			ROM Revision V1.1.6
    			Firmware Rev V2.2.1

    		  Will upgrading the firmware help?

       2) Where and how is the PC connected? Based on your first note, I
made the assumption that it is connected to the hub on floor 19 either
through the DR900TM or one of the DR90C's.

    		> I connect my PC to DR90C. I set up two PC,
on at 19th the other at 21st. Same problem.

       3) What protocol filters, if any, are setup in the DB90FL's?

    		> No protocol filter is set up in all DB90FL's.

              	> Any more ideas?

    Thanks,
    Fung Siong

1047.5Another stab ...ROGER::GAUDETBecause the Earth is 2/3 waterThu Jun 02 1994 14:0022
>> Will upgrading the firmware help?

Probably not, but I had to ask the obligatory "what versions are you running?"
question.

>> > I connect my PC to DR90C. I set up two PC,
>> on at 19th the other at 21st. Same problem.

OK, let me make sure I fully understand what does and does not work. Is this
table correct?

Manage 19th floor hub	Manage 21st floor hub
PC on 19th floor Yes No
PC on 21st floor Yes No

If this table is correct, then something is very wrong with the hub
configuration on the 21st floor, or the way you are initiating the HUBwatch
session to it. What version of HUBwatch for Windows are you running on the PC?

I'm really groping for clues here.

    Hi Roger,

Your table is correct. The HUBwatch I am using is the one I get
    from the network, ie v2.0.
Is there another newer version available?

    Thanks,
    Fung Siong
1047.7Need hub manager configuration informationROGER::GAUDETBecause the Earth is 2/3 waterFri Jun 03 1994 10:4617
Fung,

There must be something very wrong with the hub configuration on the 21st
floor. If you cannot manage it even from a PC connected to a DR90C *in that
hub* then there is a communication problem with the hub manager. Do you have
the means to connect a terminal (or terminal emulator from the PC) to the hub
manager setup port and provide the output of menu selection #3 (Show Current
Settings)? That will tell us the version information of the hub manager as well
as the IP configuration.

Another blind stab: are you sure you are providing the correct IP address
and community string of the hub to HUBwatch? Community strings are
case-sensitive.

HUBwatch or Windows V2.0 is indeed the latest version available.

1047.8Have to reboot first; DB90FL strange behaviourZPOVC::DAIV01::FUNGSIONGDigital Indonesia - NetworksMon Jun 13 1994 22:5431
    Hi,

I powered down the DEChub 900 at 21st Floor and re-booted it
last night. Now it works like a charm!

However, the DECbridge 90FL at 19th floor seems to have strange
    behaviour...

    If I do :
    NCP> Connect node DBFL19
I can connect to the DECbridge >> prompt, but cannot do anything,
    it only displays:

    >> ?

    EEPROM
    FLASH
    RESET
    TEST
    XDATA

Do I have to re-load the DECbridge s/w?

The DECbridge> prompt appears if I do similar thing for the DB90FL
    at 20th floor.

    Thanks for any info!

    Rgrds,

1047.9It's dead, Fung.ROGER::GAUDETBecause the Earth is 2/3 waterTue Jun 14 1994 11:046
Yes, it appears that the flash image has been blown away on the DBFL19 bridge.
The >> prompt is the diagnostic prompt you get when there is no valid flash
image. You should be able to load the V3.1 firmware using DECndu or NCP LOAD,
whichever is your favorite method.
