Hi, I am beginning to work with hubs and I have some basical questions: VMS 5.5-2, UCX 3.1 ,Hubwatch 3.0 I have 5 hub900 multiswitch. The first hub have one ip services module (deconcentrator 900mx) The another hubs only have repearter 90c and repeaters 90fa and one dec agent 90. I install nduplus 1.0, and DCF010 all ok. The hubs have firmware versions old and there are modules on the hubs that too have firmware old and I try to download the new versions. Questions??? 1. If I need to download firmware sofware to the hub, I have configure bootp and tftp from UCX. Then what is the use of SYS$COMMON:[SYSEXE]NDU$TFTP.EXE;1 2. If I need to configure bootp then how yo may obtain the hardware addres for the hub??? ucx> set bootp 1.0.2.3/file=tftp_root:fichero.bin/hardware=?????? ! ! ip addres of hub 3. On the hubs that don't have ip services module, that have decagent90. 1. I configure from setup on the hub with a terminal the ip address and the community name(ip address 7.0.254.251,community name public). But when I try from host ucx> ping 7.0.254.251 ip addres of hub was unreachable Yes, I understand that in this hub of this manner there are not any element that answer to ping(there are not ip services module). I prove the following after this: I put the Decagent 90 on module 6 of the hub and configure the Decagent 90 with Ip address 7.0.254.250 and community public. I configure from setup on the hub with a terminal the ip addres and the community name(ip address 7.0.254.251,community name public) and say that ip service module is in slot 6. All in band information oh course. The question is: It's possible download firmware revisions of hubs that only have decagent 90 and no ip services module. If yes what are the steps in order to make this. Best Regards, Elsa Soengas

I'll take a stab at these: >> 1. If I need to download firmware sofware to the hub, I have >> configure bootp and tftp from UCX. Then what is the >> use of SYS$COMMON:[SYSEXE]NDU$TFTP.EXE;1 This file is the TFTP loader for DECndu. If you invoke the VMS DOWNLOAD command to load a device via its IP address, this is the image that runs to do the load. According to our DECndu guru, you must disable any TFTP servers on your load host before invoking DECndu. If you do not, DECndu will get a bind error when attempting to make the connection to the device and will exit. However, the UCX server may serve the requested file to the device anyway. Unfortunately, all the fancy block count and load in progress indicators are part of the NDU$TFTP.EXE image, which will not be running due to the above bind error. Bottom line, don't configure UCX to be a TFTP server if you are loading via DECndu. This is all spelled out in the DECndu release notes. >> 2. If I need to configure bootp then how yo may obtain the hardware >> addres for the hub??? >> >> ucx> set bootp 1.0.2.3/file=tftp_root:fichero.bin/hardware=?????? >> ! >> ! >> ip addres of hub You can't. The hub does not have a hardware (MAC) address. >> I put the Decagent 90 on module 6 of the hub >> and configure the Decagent 90 with Ip address 7.0.254.250 >> and community public. >> I configure from setup on the hub with a terminal the ip >> addres and the community name(ip address 7.0.254.251,community >> name public) and say that ip service module is in slot 6. The DECagent 90 cannot be configured as an IP services module for the DEChub 900MS. >> The question is: >> >> It's possible download firmware revisions of hubs that only >> have decagent 90 and no ip services module. If yes what >> are the steps in order to make this. Yes, this is possible, but not trivial. It requires that you setup both the hub manager out-of-band serial interface and an external terminal server port (90TL or 90M) as a SLIP port. I am not familiar with all the details of setting up the terminal server. Maybe someone else can provide additional information. Hope this was of some use. ...Roger... |
