1015.0. "PORT-CONFIG fade away?" by TKTVFS::KOIKE_T (Toy..Koike MCS Tsukuba Japan/4WD FREAK) Fri May 20 1994 13:44

	Hi.

	I have a like this problem.
	DECbridge900MX & DECconcentrator900MX in DEChub900MS are config-
	ualation for HUBwatch T3.0.39

	I did this procedure.

	1. Create LAN-FDDI bus in "LAN-interconnect menu".

	2. and config a DECbridge900MX & DECconcentrator900MX FDDI port
	   Trunk B & Trunk A(below)

                         DEChub900MS
Backplane:  ==========================================================
                       Port B |           Port A |
	      +--------------------+      +--------------------+
              |   DECbridge900MX   |      |DECconcentrator900MX|
              +--------------------+      +--------------------+
Front:            | Port A                               | Port B
           >------+(Trunk B)                (Trunk A)    +--------->
                                                         to next HUB.
	3. That's correct connected LAN-FDDI bus.

	4. and I remove the DECbidge900MX & concentorator900.(intentionary)

	5. once again, I inserted those Modules.

	6. Just then, That's Modules port-config fade away.
	   (return the default setting. Stump AB)

                         DEChub900MS
Backplane:  ==========================================================

	      +--------------------+      +--------------------+
              |   DECbridge900MX   |      |DECconcentrator900MX|
              +--------------------+      +--------------------+
Front:            |Port A    |Port B         |Port A     | Port B
           >------+          +               +           +--------->
                    (Stump)                    (Stump)   to next HUB.

	???
	Is this correct case?
	I believed in no-lose setting this case.
	or What led to this problem?
	 	DEChub900MS's frimware "T3.0.19"
	     or HUBwatch Version "T3.0.39"

	Please advise me.

	Regards,
	/Toy.

    Hi Toy,

    	As I understand it, the configurations are not saved. When you
    remove the modules, the configuration is lost. When the 900MX modules
    are inserted into the hub the only the front connectors are active by
    default ie. stump.

    Correct - if the hub 'see's you remove a module, the backplane
    configuration for it is deleted.

	Thanks, this information.

	I hope the next version's "MAM" Firmware.
	Maybe, The DEChub900 will able to save configuration.

	Regards,
	Toy.

    Keeping the configuration of a slot you've seen a module removed from
    has a number of problems that we've never been able to come up with a
    solution to here that we can all agree on.
