1007.0. "FDDI configuration & management" by SWAM2::JACOMB_SC (I know enough to be dangerous!!) Thu May 19 1994 15:03

I have a customer that is looking to implement both DEChub 900 running
FDDI concentrator modules and Bridge modules and a couple of Gigaswitches.

He wants to be able to manage them both from the same management
platform and wants us to quote the software for that also.

I was looking at hubwatch for OpenVMS as a managment solution, as I
remember seeing that it would support the Gigaswitch in the near future
(how far off is the near future?). I know that it will manage the
DEChub 900s. Will it also manage the DECbridge 900s if they are mounted
    in DEChub ones?

I seem to remember needing to have a 900 based repeater module or
something like that to be able to manage the 900 with hubwatch. Is that
    true?

This proposal is due right away. Can anyone help me with this
    configuration?

HUBwatch for OpenVMS VAX V3.0 will manage everything you've mentioned.
It is being submitted to the SSB on May 20th.

You will need at least one module supporting IP services in the
DEChub 900 inorder to manage it. The Decrepeater 900 TM is one of
those modules. Also beware of the restrictions on FDDI configurations
for the first release of firmware for the 900MX bridge and
concentrator. However if it for a bid, its the old "yep its compliant"
and then negotiate the implementation configuration :^)

Yes.

Nope. You can manage the DEChub900 thru:

        - an IP services module All 900 modules except the DECserver900TM
support IP services. (The DECbridge900MX supports IP services.)
The new MIN repeaters can also act as IP servers. Note 581
          describes IP services.
        - a SLIP connection to the hub's out-of-band-management port
        - both.
