Only concentrators provide M ports.
You won't have the dual ring configuration but (unless there
is a restriction on the DAS implementation on the DB900) you
can do this -
DB900(A) ---- (B)DB900(A) ---- (S)Sun

| The default is for both bridges to be AB on the front - just hook them
to each other and you have a ring. You don't need to change the port
types.
Is the problem the Sun Server?

| I do not need a dual ring. What I need is the following but thought
the Sun (SAS) had to go to an M port. But if below works, then
I can last until I get a DC 900MX in or until they get more file
servers in and want to hook them to FDDI.
DB900(A) ---- (B)DB900(A) ---- (S)Sun

| re .2
the problem is if you connect A--B
| |
B--A
you have no place to connect the S-port on the Sun.

| The config in .3 works fine.. it will look like a wrapped ring.

992.6 | No need of DAS adapter ?? | LFOIS1::MOUSSU | so unusuaL terM | Tue May 31 1994 06:37 | 9 |
| As far as I had understood the FDDI config rules, I would have bet
that a DAS adapter was required on the SUN system side to allow the
ring to wrap.
DB900(A) ---- (B)DB900(A) ---- (A)Sun
Have I missed something ?

992.7 | It will work, but has no fault control | NACAD2::BATTERSBY | | Tue May 31 1994 10:05 | 7 |
| Your configuration will work, but of course, the Sun will only
be connected to the primary ring. If that SAS connection breaks
or otherwise disrupts the (primary) ring, there would be no fault
control. Placing a concentrator (if one was available), between
the DB900(A) and the (A)Sun would provide this fault control.

We have been running like the following for the last 2 weeks:
(A)DB900(B) ---- (A)DB900(B)
The customer JUST managed to get the FDDI card in the SUN. We just
took a MIC-MIC patch cord and plugged it straight into the B port
and everything came up just fine. No configuring the DB 900. We
will run this way until we get the DECconcentrator 900 that is on
order.
(A)DB900(B) ---- (A)DB900(B) ---- (S)SUN
