      DIGITAL DEMONSTRATES POWERFUL NETWORK SWITCHING CAPABILITIES

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- May 2, 1994 -- This week at NetWorld+INTEROP '94, 
Digital Equipment Corporation demonstrates extensive high performance 
switching capabilities across its family of networking products. In 
addition, new and enhanced switching capabilities for the DEChub 900 
MultiSwitch and GIGAswitch products are being announced, and multivendor 
ATM demonstrations are on view. 

Responding to the market's demand for network solutions that meet the 
customer's increasing need for bandwidth and performance, Digital is 
announcing the second wave of products for its successful DEChub 900 
MultiSwitch, which premiered last August.  These products include the 
DECrepeater 900FP, the DECbridge 900MX, and the DECconcentrator 900MX. 
All are available today.

The DECrepeater 900FP represents Digital's first per-port switching 
module for the DEChub 900 MultiSwitch.  This high-density, flexible 
solution connects 12 fiber Ethernet links to a central hub.  Like all 
DEChub 900 modules, the DECrepeater 900FP works standalone, or in the 
DEChub 900 MultiSwitch backplane.

The DECbridge 900MX is a seven port Ethernet-to-FDDI switch that 
implements full bridging capabilities to maximize network throughput. The 
DECconcentrator 900MX is an eight-port FDDI wiring concentrator. Both 
work standalone, or mounted in the DEChub 900 MultiSwitch backplane, 
giving customers unmatched flexibility in configuring their networks. 

Digital continues to enhance its award-winning GIGAswitch, the first and 
fastest FDDI switch on the market. Today, Digital is announcing an ATM 
line card for the GIGAswitch. This card allows GIGAswitches to be 
interconnected via ATM or T3 wide area services, giving GIGAswitch 
customers remote FDDI internetworking and a protected path to ATM.

Additionally, Digital is announcing a 4-port FDDI card for the 
GIGAswitch, increasing the number of FDDI devices or networks that can be 
interconnected by the GIGAswitch from 22 to 34, as well as new GIGAswitch 
firmware that offers features such as an integrated Address Resolution 
Protocol (ARP) server and dual homing for fault tolerant configurations.  
The GIGAswitch now can be managed by HUBwatch, Digital's graphical 
interface network management tool.

Extensive ATM capabilities are on view at NetWorld+INTEROP '94. Digital's 
GIGAswitch/ATM, Premises ATM switch and ATM adapters will be part of the 
ATM Showcase network that spans INTEROP and Supercomm in New Orleans.  
This network delivers applications, such as desktop videoconferencing and 
electronic information kiosks, based on Digital's Alpha AXP systems, 
Mosaic and Worldwide Web.

    THE DECbridge 900MX is a competitively priced multi-port switch that

    MultiSwitch, the DECconcentrator 900MX enables a range of FDDI backbone 
    and desktop connections for large numbers of users and new, high
