943.0. "HubwatchV2 install problem" by BRUMMY::WILLIAMSM (Born to grep) Thu Apr 28 1994 12:24

I have a customer attempting to install a DECHub900 for the first time.
He is using all DEC hardware and running hubwatch on a local PC for
management purposes. Slot one contains a DECBridge90FL, slot two
contains a DECRepeater90, slot 3 is empty, slot 4,5&6 contain
DECrepeater900's. The module in slot 4 is used for management
purposes and there is a simple TP connection from slot 4 to the PC.
The Hubwatch V2.0 picks up the connection and draws out the picture of
the hub. It is also possible to go into "view" and disconnect the
900's from segment A, you can also add another segment. What you can
not do is add connections to the new segment. If you try it a dialogue
box pops up warning you that you might create a loop after clicking
continue another box pops up saying "ADD FAILED" you click on OK and
return. Physically removing the bridge in slot one does not help.
Hubwatch V2 had to be copied over the net as the promised copy has not
appeared. This means we only have the older V1 manuals which are no
    help. Any suggestions?

regards, in a slight panic, Michael Williams.

    Michael,

A couple of things I can think of that may cause this are:

        1) You are not using the proper read-write community string.
You probably are though since you can perform the other
           operations you mentioned.

        2) You may have created a repeater loop in which case the
           connection will be rejected.
