My customer is about to change his mind about using HUBwatch for
Windows. He purchased version 1.0 early on...and had numerous
problems... but did like the functionality that the product was
specified to have... He migrated to a VMS version until all the kinks
were worked out of the Windows version... and now Version 2.0 for
Windows 2.0 is relatively "bug" free ... all the functionality that
he liked is now gone/removed/bye bye !!! He refuses to run HUBwatch
on VAX any longer ... Can anyone tell me when and if the "removed"
functionality will be added back in a future release.
I really need to understand exactly what functions were removed and
those that will and will not be added back in a future release. My
customer needs some proof that the features he desires will be there
shortly.
Here are a few of the features that he liked and are gone...
Topological Map
Alarms
Reports
Could someone give me a feature/functionality list of HUBwatch for
Windows V 3.0 and ballpark release month such as July etc...

Note 855 does not answer my question ... Third party solutions such as
SNMP browser is unacceptable by the customer ...
Does a version 3.0 for Windows feature/functionality list exist. THat
is all that I am looking for ...

The Windows V3.0 development plan is being worked now. What we know
is it will support the new HUB modules (Bridge, FDDI Conc, new
repeaters) and the associated LAN hopping. It will also support more
IP stacks that just pathworks (probably at least Novell ODI). It will
also support some level of integration with HP OpenView for Windows.
The OV supports MAPs, Alarms and SNMP mib brower.

> Note 855 does not answer my question ... Third party solutions such as > SNMP browser is unacceptable by the customer ... Whether the customer knew it or not, he was getting a third party solution with HUBwatch V1.0. We are substituting a different 3rd party solution with HUBwatch V3.0; I think he may find more functionality in the HP OpenView for Windows. The difference is in pricing. Now that we have our own HUBwatch code running on Windows, we can price it lower ($495 vs $2400). For new customers who want the extra functionality such as maps, reports, alarms, they can pay extra and get it in HP OpenView. Of course this isn't real until V3.0 in July. | |||||
