809.0. "Wires for LANs in the multiswitch?" by CGOS01::DMARLOWE (Have you been HUBbed lately?) Wed Mar 09 1994 17:27

An Ethernet channel takes 6 wires in the multiswitch.

How many wires for each FDDI point to point?

How many wires for each token ring (I assume its point to point
    also)?

    ATM?

The FDDI channels are also groups of 6 signals, and you need two
channels for each connection (as explained in 651.0).

The token rings are dedicated hardware in the upper connector; they
don't use multiswitch signals at all.

It's too early to talk about ATM other than to say that the planned
approaches use larger signal sets to get really high backplane
    bandwidth.

There was a discussion of connecting a pair of another type of modules
in the hub at NET U (aka Network Academy). Amazing capability when
you start pairing up those wires.
