802.0. "Customer gets NON-alarms with V1.1 of HUBwatch" by STRWRS::KOCH_P (It never hurts to ask...) Tue Mar 08 1994 07:08

A customer of mine is using Hubwatch for Windows V1.1. If they select a
bridge to look at, it alarms and then log an error stating that the
    bridge is down.

They have been told by the CSC (and I beleive I learned this from one
of the PMs at Network Academy) that V2.0 will fix this but V2.0 disables
    alarms...

And I've been told this is all fixed in V3.0.

    Can anyone offer some insights?

I believe that V1.0 and V1.1 for Windows were from David Systems.
We then started writing our own for OpenVMS. V2.0 for Windows is
in fact a port from OpenVMS. We never had alarms in our version
but will add some things for V3.0. I don't know how much. Also
there should be support for things like FDDI and the DECbridge 900MX
and DECrepeater 900FP. I have much business riding on those modules
so I hope the hardware and software to do the magic ships no later
    that mid May.

I had a customer running V1.0 and V1.1 and they had nothing good
to say about it. Kept crashing and when it did it wiped out the
    database.

Dave is basically correct. V2.0 for Windows is a port of VMS V2.0.
There is not alarms in that version. V3.0 on VMS (and shortly there
after on OSF) will have an alarming function that polls the hubs
(modules) and presents the alarm to the GUI and puts it in a file.
On windows V3.0 we will integrate with HP Openview for Windows and
add a poller into that to hook up with the OV alarming so you will
get alarming back on the PC.
