709.0. "Self contained dual ring" by ZUR01::SCHNEIDERR () Wed Feb 09 1994 09:45
In note 651 are very well explained FDDI configuration rules.
As we can read in this "guide", in release 4.0 we should be able to do a
"self-contained dual ring" on the backplane.
Does this mean:
- We can build automaticly a dual ring on the backplane, but there are still two
channels used for each connection?
- There are less channels used?
- something else...........
Why do we use one channel for each FDDI connection on the backplane. As I know,
there are 6 pins (wire) used for a channel. Are there plans, to use just one
channel for two fibre-connections (one channel for a A-B or a M-S connection)?

| The backplane implementation of FDDI uses 6 signals (one 'FDDI
channel') for each connection. If we changed that in future FDDI
modules they could not operate with current ones.
