| No, HUBwatch V3.0 manages DEChubs and GIGAswitch. There are some people
thinking about HUBwatch for the DECnis, but there's nothing real yet.

Yes, I know HUB!=NIS and also HUB!=GIGAswitch.
HUBwatch V3.0 will manage GIGAswitch too (ref .1) and hence it is
logical to ask if there are any plans to incorporate DECnis too.
I am not sure what is the general opinion, I have felt the need to
have a Network Management Station which can manage at least Digital's
all network offerings. In a recent tender, I had to offer both HUBwatch and
NetView.

| Management of DECNIS is not likely (not planned) because it manageable
via DEC CMIP not SNMP. Future router products (HUB based) will be
incoporating more and SNMP for management. As this happen HUBwatch
will begin to manage these routers.

| RE: .4
My 10p worth,
It might be worth your while contacting DECnis Product Management. I
know 2.3 has enhanced the SNMP capabilities and that part of the
product goals for v3.* of the DECnis software are to make as many
aspects of the NIS as SNMP manageable as possible with the possibility
of Telnet connections to cover what isn't.
In fact if you compare the amount of SNMP provided by HUBwatch for the
DBr90 (i.e. very little) I would have thought this could be extended to
the DECnis under HUBwatch (excluding issues of funding). Finally its
also worth remembering that elements of the NIS software will be
incorporated into future router products as DECnis engineering are
wisely modularising the DEC router range software.
Cheers

| SNMP management of DECnis V2.3 (March ship) supports MIBII, FDDI MIB,
Bridge MIB and a subset of the DEC ELAN MIB. They need a front panel
view and a chassis MIB as a start to be managable from HUBwatch.
Full management requires a node running DECnet/OSI.
You should make your voice heard in the NOTED::DECNIS conference
if you see a customer requirement for a GUI (HUBwatch) for the DECnis.
