675.0. "BRIDGE FORWARDING STATE led ON, DB90FL problem" by ZPOVC::DAIV01::FUNGSIONG (Digital Indonesia - Networks) Mon Jan 31 1994 21:38

	Hallo,

A customer has the following configuration:

	DH90

	D D
	R R
	9 9 ----- WANG
	0 0 ----- Novell Server
 	F C --------+ DECXM - DECNIS
	L

	DB90FL

After a certain period, about 3 days, something happens.
The DB90FL "BRIDGE FORWARDING STATE" LED goes on, and
the workgroup on that bridge loses connection to the
Servers on the DR90FL LAN. The LED color is yellow.
This happens intermitently, and sometimes after rebooting
the DECNIS it becomes OK again.

	1) What is the cause of the yellow LED on the DB90FL
becoming ON? Is it an error status?
	2) Can the Novell NetWare or WANG computer be the cause
of this problem, ie too much packet sent on the
network, etc? Can the DECNIS be the problem?

To be sure, the # of workstations on the workgroup
at the DB90FL is less than 200.

	Please advise.

	Best Regards,
	Fung Siong

That LED means that the bridge is in 'learning mode', sometimes called
'pre-forwarding'. It has become confused as to the topology.

If you are not running FPROM V3.1, get that. If you are, then there
are not enough clues in your posting for me to guess what the problem
    might be.
