672.0. "Help wanted installing new MAM software on DH900" by TOOK::MORRISON (Bob M. LKG1-3/A11 226-7570) Fri Jan 28 1994 12:54

  I am a software engineer in the Access Servers Group. A month ago, our group
got a production model DEChub 900 and I volunteered to set it up in the lab.
I had had almost no experience with hubs, but I successfully set it up by fol-
lowing the Owner's Manual.
  Recently I heard that a new version of MAM software is being released. I would
like to install it on our hub. After quite a bit of effort, I got a soft copy
of a DECndu manual and read it. It appears that MAM software can only be in-
stalled via DECndu. Now I face two more challenges. Apparently nobody in the
Access Servers group has DECndu installed on their systems and I don't want to
go to the trouble to install it on my workstation for the few times I will need
to use it. Is there anyone in the hubs group who has DECndu and would be willing
to install the new MAM software for me, while I watch and take notes?
  In case I decide to try installing new MAM software on my own at some future
time, I would like to get the manual for this. That is, the manual referenced
in the DECndu manual where it says "refer to device-specific software micro-
code installation manual"; in this case the "device" is the hub. Can anyone give
me a pointer to it? Preferably on and written for VMS.

  One reason why I am posting this request here is so that in case someone
else outside the hubs group also wants to upgrade their MAM software, they
can read this topic and save themselves some time in tracking down the info
they need.
672.2Another question re existence of manualTOOK::MORRISONBob M. LKG1-3/A11 226-7570Mon Jan 31 1994 11:036
  It occurred to me that the upcoming MAM revision is probably the first soft-
ware rev since the DEChub 900 was released, and customers don't really need to
have a software update manual until the software revision is released. This may
explain why I have been unable to find a soft copy of the manual. However, I
would still like to know if a manual exists. If it does, how do I find it and
if it doesn't, when will it be available?

    There is no manual other than the Hub Owners manual that comes packed
    with the hardware.

    The only documentation I know of on how to do an upgrade is the
    documentation that comes with DECnduplus. On Ultrix, that is the man
    page 'decndup.4'. I assume that the VMS kit has something similar and
    that you get either when they are installed.

  I'm still confused about whether documentation exists, but will put this
question on hold for now. Do you have an estimate of when the MAM upgrade will
be released?
