668.0. "Illegal Configuration??" by VIDOAN::IZZO () Thu Jan 27 1994 09:55

Is the following customer configuration legal - I think not. If it
in fact is illegal then how can I validate that the configuration is
contributing to poor performance (NCP counters?). - Thank you.

Can you provide some more details on the nature of the problem?

This is a Pathworks environement. DOS applications are server (VAX)
based. Performance between the PC clients and the VAX server is not
quite what we would expect. We are looking the possibility of server
configuration problems which may well account for the poor performance.

However, my concern in the base note is around the number of repeaters
between the clients and servers. Does configuration violate the 2(4?)
    repeater rule?

    Thanks,

Doesn't look like it violates the 5-4-3 rule. The first thing you want
to check is that the transceiver connected to the global port of the
DELNI has it's Heartbeat(SQE) disabled. If it is enabled, The DELNI will
pass that Heartbeat on to the DEMPR which thinks it is a real collision
and JAM all is segments. This alone will make a good network go down
    the tubes real quick.

    Hope this helps,

    Dave
