649.0. "Problems with T2.1 installation" by WOTVAX::HATTOS (I think, Therefore I'm paid less) Mon Jan 24 1994 04:38

    Hullo,

    I am trying to install the T2.1 Hubwatch for Windows kit.

    I am having problems with the installer. First of all I get an error
    message saying:-

    NONFATAL ERROR AT SCRIPT LINE 869
    	Source file not found

    I OK this and the install continues and then bitches...

    NONFATAL ERROR AT SCRIPT LINE 869
    	Unable to open source file

    I OK this and the install continues and then bitches...

    File not found
    C:\DOS\logo.bmp

    I move the logo.bmp to \DOS and then restart the install which then
    just gives the first two error messages.

    Two questions, should I be worried about the above problems?

    And... the install guide says that if I am to run Hubwatch with
    PATHWORKS refer to Appendix B... where is appendix B? I can't find
    it!

    Regards,
    Stuart

649.1Failed to copy logo.bmp fileQUIVER::PARKMon Jan 24 1994 15:4525
    It seems that you failed to copy a logo.bmp file from the
    nac::management:windows2. After you copy the entire T2.1 kit,
    make sure you have following files in your diskette:

    DISK.ID;1           HUBW10.001;1        HUBW10.INF;1
    INSTALL.EXE;1       LOGO.BMP;1

    If you copy these files to ultrix workstation, you have to use -i
    switch (image copy) to copy the bit map file. For example,

    dcp -i NAC::'LENAC_USER:[NETWORKS.HUB.MANAGE.WINDOWS2]*.*' .

    It seems that you set up your PC as "TEMP" points to c:\dos directory.
    During the installation the installation procedure creates temporary
    files in the directory where the "TEMP" is defined. That's why you
    see the logo.bmp file in the c:\dos. It is recommended to set the
    "TEMP" points to some other directory other than \dos. You don't
    want to mess up the \dos directory.

    Give it a try and let me know if you have any problem.

649.2Install only from floppy?BIKINI::KRAUSEEuropean NewProductEngineer for MCCTue Jan 25 1994 03:058
I had the same problem. I copied the files to a Pathworks file service
and tried to install from there. Since this didn't work, I copied the
files to a floppy and installed from drive A:. This worked, but in my
opinion, the installation procedure should be smart enough to handle
installations from any disk - or at least give some meaningful error
message.

649.3Yes but what about Appendix B?WOTVAX::HATTOSI think, Therefore I'm paid lessTue Jan 25 1994 06:3817
    Woah,

    Where my TEMP variable points to is up to me surely...

    I did copy the logo.bmp.

    Imagine I am a customer who just paid $495 for HWW and finds it doesn't
    install, surely this is part of the IFT process, to point out these
    kinds of problems.

    I tried copying the kit to floppy but I still had problems, however I
    have got it installed now.

    I still cannot use it however becasue Appendix B is missing from the
    docs and this tells me how to configure when I have PWRKS installed.

    Any more help?
