Hi,

We have a customer which has the following environment:

- a DEChub 90 with 3 DECrepeaters 90T (24 Twisted pair ports)
- 23 DECservers 200/MC (using DETPM twisted pair media access units)
- a DECbridge 90 (used to connect the DEChub to the Backbone)

The DECserver 200/MC are used in order to give access to remote users (with 
VT terminals) through dial up or lease telephone lines.

The customer told us they have two problems:
- The remote users sessions are disconnected in a random way.
- The remote users are no so happy with the reponse time they have in their 
  terminals.


Before this week, the customer had their DECservers 200 connected to some DELNIs 
or directly to the backbone using H4000 transceiver and the remote users
were working O.K.


I have some doubts about this situation:

1) Is there some considerations (by instance HEARBEAT) I should take in account
   in order to use the DETPM to connect DECservers 200 to the DECrepeater 90T?
   As a complement of this doubt could someone explain me what kind of
   considerations I have to take in account in order to enable or disable
    the Hearbeat switch of a transceiver or MAU device?

   Let me say why I think this: I made a test connecting one of these DECservers
   200 to a DELNI and the remote users that are using this decserver are working
   o.k. without disconnections and with a better response time.


2) Could a DEChub 90 with 7 DECrepeaters 90T support 56 Terminal servers
   ( 200s, 300s, 700s, etc)?  Maybe this is a stupid question but I have
    not found information which I can use in order to clarify my doubt


I have found some topics in other conferences which say that
DECserver 200's don't need Heartbeat signal, however I would really appreciate
if someone could help me to find what could be the reason of this
problems.
