588.0. "Singlemode DECbridge 900MX?" by GLDOA::JSCHMIDT (Wire's Wire; Unless it's a Network) Tue Dec 28 1993 13:03

    I am looking for some configuration support. My situation is as
    follows:

    I have a city government customer who has multiple buildings spread out
    across town, all distances are less than 10 miles.

    They have a requirement for multiple networks in most locations.

    They have Multimode Fiber installed between wiring closets in all buildings.

    They have both multimode and single mode fiber between buildings.

    They are sold on the DEChub 900, and would like to use this
    equipment where ever possible.

    They would like an FDDI Backbone with multiple ethernets for
    distribution.

    Most of the solution is fairly straight forward:

    A DEChub 900 in the computer room with DECconcentrator 900MX modules
    for backbone distribution and a DECbridge 900MX for attachment to the
    file servers and computer room equipment.

    A DEChub 900 on each floor with a DECbridge 900MX for connection to the
    FDDI backbone and DECrepeater 900TMs and DECrepeater 90Ts for Station
    distribution.

    My consternation comes from how to handle the sites that are over 2km
    from the computer room and require 2 or more ethernets. The best
    solution I have been able to come up with is to install a
    DECconcentrator 900MX simply to provide the conversion from Single Mode
    to Multimode. (This is of course based my understanding that the
    DECbridge 900MX is a Multimode only device.) Is this the best solution,
    or is there a better way?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jim

588.1DECswtich 900EF with DEChub ONE-MX supports SMFTLAV02::WITTAYAJMon Jun 26 1995 03:5111
    Hello ,
    	You can connect a single-mode fiber to DECswitch900EF by DEChub
    ONE-MX (DEF1H). DEChub ONE-MX supports with 2 ModPMD which is changed
    to the following type:
    	-Mutimode Fiber (MMF) (DEFXM-AA)
    	-Single-mode fiber (SMF) (DEFXS-AA)
    	-Unshielded Twisted-Paor (UTP) (DEFXU-AA)
    I hope my reply can help you win a project.
    Bye..
    Tony.
