564.0. "DEMO 900 HUB AVAILABLE" by QUIVER::SLAWRENCE () Wed Dec 15 1993 12:29

    I have set up a DEChub 900 on the EASYNET for sites that would
    like to be able to play with HUBwatch but don't have a hub. We
    will try to maintain this hub for as long as it is helpfull.
    As of now, it contains 2 power supplies and 1 DETMM; the
    configuration may change without notice depending on what we can
    free up to put into it.

    The hub IP addresses are:

        16.20.216.127 - In Band through slot 8 (a DETMM right now)

        16.20.216.128 - Out of Band (via an external DECserver90TL)

                         There is little or no difference between
                         these in practice, since the DECserver
                         providing SLIP to the OBM port is on the same
                         segment as the Ethernet connection, but it
                         was just as easy to set up both.

    The communities for the hub are:

        Read Only:   public

        Read Write:  demohub

    Please use the read/write community with care; in particular,
    things NOT TO DO include:

        - Factory Reset the hub - this will delete the IP addresses
          and the demo will be over for everyone.

        - Disable the Ethernet port that connects it to the network
          (port A1, slot 8). Same effect, but the OBM port might
          still work so you could fix it before we catch you.

        - Show stations on the EASYNET port; it will take forever
          (there are a _lot_ of addresses out there).

    Bear in mind that whatever you do, you may not be the only NMS
    operating on the hub - you may see things change or have your
    changes reversed. There is no way for us to prevent that and
    leave the hub open for all to use.

    If are unable to connect to it or you accidentally factory reset
    it or need help from someone here, you can send mail to:

       [email protected] -or- newhub::demohub

    That address will reach someone here who can get to it physically.
    Please don't use that address for other questions; we read this
    notes file and will try to respond here so that others can
    benefit.

Scott,

You sure are brave giving out the read-write community... ;-)

564.4NEW ADDRESSES for Demo HubNACAD2::SLAWRENCEMon Sep 12 1994 13:358

    As a part of an ongoing network reconfiguration here in DEChub
    engineering, the addresses of these hubs have changed:

        16.21.1.127 - In Band
        16.21.1.128 - OBM

    Is this no longer available?
564.6SLINK::HOODApril showers bring vacation daysWed Apr 19 1995 18:541
16.21.1.128 seems to work.

    Must be a problem down here then on my system. It says it doesn't
    respond...
564.8STRWRS::KOCH_PIt never hurts to ask...Wed Apr 19 1995 19:243
    Well, there must be SOMETHING wrong because I ping random addresses in
    16.21.1 and get replies, for instance .1, .2 and even .130, however
    .127 & .128 don't respond. This seems strange...
564.9NETCAD::DOODYMichael DoodyThu Apr 20 1995 10:593
    Please try again. Even the in-band 16.21.1.127 should work now.

    .127 responds.

    .128 does NOT respond.
564.11NETCAD::GALLAGHERFri Apr 21 1995 10:317
Bizarre. I can ping them both from my office here in LKG - one router away.
Both 127 and 128 are really connected to the same LAN - same subnet - same
Ethernet segment.

I'd like to help, but am at a loss as to what the problem might be.

Is the demo hub still available? I tried a ping with a 60 second wait
and not response...

   Guy

564.13Yep, still there.NETCAD::GALLAGHERThu Jul 20 1995 09:375
Yes, demohub is still available. I can ping both addresses. (Of course,
I'm connected to the lan it's on and don't have to go thru any routers.
You might want to try 'traceroute' to see how close you can get to 16.21.1.)

cross posted in 2747

getting "no response from agent" in specified agent window
and getting timeouts on ping of 16.21.1.127.

just checking , is 16.21.1.127 still alive?

    That hub's OBM port is responding (16.21.1.128). Try that. Don't know
    why the in band is not working. But that's some device & maybe it's
    not
    there right now.

    I am unable to get to 16.21.1.127. Is this still a valid HUB on the
    net?

564.17Yep.NETCAD::GALLAGHERMon Apr 15 1996 16:064
The hub seems fine. I can ping it from a couple routers away
here at LKG - not that that helps you.

    Is the demo hub out there? I have been unable to ping it for many
    weeks now. Has it moved?

    Thanks,

Q: How many network support people does it take to change a light bulb?
A: None. The light bulb works just fine in their office.

I can ping both 16.21.1.127 and 16.21.1.128 from my office here in LKG.
DemoHub has been up and running for 6 days (since we lost power last week.)

    You may try posting the results of a traceroute. That may shed
    some light on where your packets are going (or not going).

We think maybe we understand the connectivity
problems to the demohub, and are looking in to
it. I'll let you know when it should be available.

564.22NEW IP ADDRESSESNETCAD::DOODYMichael DoodyMon Jun 17 1996 13:377
The demohub has new IP addresses. DNS will take a day or
so to catch up; until then, you can use the IP address rather
than the name.

16.21.0.60   demohub.dechub.lkg.dec.com       In-band via slot 7
16.21.0.61   demohub_obm.dechub.lkg.dec.com   OBM

    The demo hub doesn't seem to be responding. I'm here at LKG via a
    wireless antenna & DHCP, some I'm connected. I also can not ping it
    from my system in NJ.

564.24NETCAD::DOODYMichael DoodyTue Jul 09 1996 14:5411
The in-band address didn't work because our power failures
yesterday screwed up the lame repeater in there.

The OBM address didn't work because I configured it wrong.

Both should work now, have fun. If you would like it
running newer firmware let me know. I just haven't had time
yet.
