542.0. "Decbrouter 90 .- Decbridge 90.- Decagent Question." by ISIDRO::ATTO9::Julio-Vazquez () Tue Dec 07 1993 04:43

	Hi,

I have some questions about HUB 90 Config rules:

I'm going to install un Hub 90 with some repiters 90T(DETMR-MA), and
one Decbrouter 90 (DEWB1-MA). The customer want to manage them, so we
need the DECagent module, and I want to install it in the Hub.

Q1.- Do you Know if I need a DECbridge 90 to manage the Decrepiters
90 T, with Hubwatch, or it is enough with the DECbrouter 90.?.

Q2.- If the answer is not, May I install one DECbrouter, One
Decbridge and one Decagent in the same HUB.

Q3.- The Brouter is going to be connected to a Wide Area Network,
with a dedicate line to a DECNIS, in another building, which as a
LAN with some HUB's 900 and Hub's 90 some of them with DECagent
If one of the Decagent manage least than 4 Bridges, May I manage
the HUB through the DECbrouter and the DEcbridge.

Q4.- If I put one HUB 900 instead of HUB 90, What I need to manage
the DECrepiter 90 T and the DECbrouter?.

	Thank in advance.

   hi,Julio

Q1. you need a decbridge90 , at this time fonctionality for hub management
are no yet implemented on DECbrouter (may be in the future)

Q2.yes no problem ( remember only slot 7,8 on DECHU90 provide 12 v for AUI)

  Q3. Yes no problem

Q4. Decbridge90 until and Decagent90 or Decagent only with V2.0 of Firmware

  hope that's help you

Q1. J-Y is correct, the DECbrouter cannot provide management
information for the DECagent; you do need a bridge. The DECagent V2.0
firmware will eliminate the need for the bridge in this configuration
since it will be capable of managing the hub it is in without a bridge
(it will still require a bridge in a remote hub). This is in
development now, watch this notesfile for availability...

Q2. Correct again; note that the DECagent requires 12V power, so it and
the DECbridge need to be in slots 7 & 8. The DECbrouter has no slot
    restrictions.

Q3. Yes, you could put just the brouter and the bridge and not a local
DECagent if you have a remote DECagent available.

Q4. The DEChub 900 does _not_ require a bridge to manage the
DECrepeater 90's; its builtin agent can do it without either a bridge
or the DECagent. You do need to provide it with an IP connection,
    either through a DECrepeater900TM for In-band and/or a SLIP connection
    to its OBM port.

Hola Julio,

Be carefull with your configuration. If you use a Bridge90 and a Brouter90 in
the same HUB, you have to care about the 200 address limitaion for the
Bridge90.

This means:

Your Bridge90 is only able to see 200 addresses on the backplane-segment (If it
sees more, it goes into flooding mode and forwards all packets so it isn't a
real bridge anymore :-)).
If you enable bridging on your DECnis- Brouter90 connection, probably you will
see all (or a lot) of your addresses from the remote LAN. As I read there is a
big one (>> with some HUB's 900 and Hub's 90).
