What DEMSA software is he running. Both the X25router 2000 and DECrouter
2000 software have fix kits that take care of the HEARTBEAT problem.
DECserver 200's don't need it.
You cannot disable heartbeat by clipping wires in the cable. Heartbeat
is a signal on the collision detection pair of the transciever cable.
Cutting these would mean you could not detect collisions at all and would
create its' own set of problems.

| Thanks for the response.
My customers environment is as follows:
DECserver 200's - Version 3.1 BL 37
DECrouter 2000's - Version 1.1 BL 11
Question:
To resolve the previously stated issue of HB, what software do I
need and how do I get it?
Thanks,
Dan

| The DECserver's are ok, the DECrouter's should be at V1.2 BL15, it they
are running DECrouter 2000 Software. You can get the latest patch
DECrouter patch from the CSC.

| Are your DECserver 200s configured for CONSOLE PORT NONE?
DECserver 200s will not load without heartbeat _if_ the console
port is defined "NONE" _and_ they have old ROMS. You cannot discern the
ROM version from the SHOW SERVER info. either.
I submitted a STARS article on this which ended up with a somewhat
obscure title. Send me MAIL if you think this is related to your
situation and you cannot find the article.
