493.0. "DECrepeater90*/HUB900/MOP Management" by ISIDRO::REJON (FRANCISCO REJN @SQO EIS-IS) Fri Nov 12 1993 07:55

Just a question about DECrepeater90 management. If a DECrepeater90 is
working on a HUB900:

	 Is it manageable using MOP?

If it is, do I need a DECBridge90 on the HUB900?

The DEChub 900 Hub Manager acts as an SNMP agent for the DECrepeater
90s in a 900; you do not need a DECbridge for management (though of
course you may still need it for bridging :-).

The 900 Hub Manager does not support any MOP management.

That having been said, it is possible to use a DECbridge to manage
repeaters in the same way as in a DEChub 90 when in a 900; if you don't
set any IP address on the hub management module it will allow a bridge
in the hub to act as 'bus master' as it would in a 90 and manage the
repeaters through the bridge. This is really meant to be a backwards
compatibility feature only for customers who are migrating an existing
configuration and don't want to change everything at once.

    Why do you ask?

Thank you for your quick answer. My customer wants to migrate HUB90
with repeaters 90 and bridges 90 to HUB900, but he has no SNMP Manager, he
wants to know if he could continue managing repeaters and bridges via MOP.

						Thanks. F.Rejn.

We have taken the approach across all the new DEChub products of
migrating to industry standard solutions for management; in order to
keep from making our development times longer by doing so we are having
to limit or eliminate the older DEC-proprietary parallel mechanisms,
    including MOP console.
