481.0. "Excessive disk activity, HW V1.1, why?" by BLKPUD::WARNESG (This space deliberately left blank) Tue Nov 09 1993 11:35

Anyone point to a possible cause of excessive disk I/O when running
HUBwatch for Windows V1.1 Beta 1.

I have seen this problem on my DECstation 425 since the beginning
running V1.0 Hubwatch for Windows and the situation hasn't changed
    since upgrading.

As an idea of the scale of the problem, in any 1 minute time frame
I can expect the disk activity LED to be "on the go" for about 50+
    seconds !

The test setup in which I can easily reproduce this is :

    8 slot DEChub 90
    ----------------

    1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

    Empty Empty DS90L+ DS90L+ DS90L+ DECrepeater 90T DECBridge 90 DENMA

    DENMA is running V1.1

    DECbridge is running V3.1 firmware.

    DECstation 425, Windows 3.1, MS-DOS V5.0

The "About Hubwatch ..." pull down Help doesn't give a resources
figure, but if I iconize HUBwatch and use another "About xyz" pulldown
from a different application then I see 19.525 KB Free Memory
    and 74% Free System Resources.

I have been running HUBwatch at the same time as PATHWORKS and thought
this might be the cause, however stopping PATHWORKS seems to have
    no effect.

What could be the cause of all that disk I/O ??

I have no debug options switched on via CUSTOM NETDEV.SYS

The following are my CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT, & .INI files for reference,
I might add that I need to get to the bottom of this problem if
at all possible as I will be demonstrating HUBwatch to customers very
shortly. Any help greatly appreciated !
