465.1 | configurable via management | DELNI::GIUNTA | | Tue Nov 02 1993 13:14 | 9 |
| It is both. It can be configured as 12 individual ports or as 6 pairs or
redundant ports, or some combination in between depending on what your
particular configuration is.
And I'm not sure yet when it will be announced, so don't count on the end
of the calendar year for announcement just yet.

Cathy

Can 12 10BaseFL ports be assigned to flexible channels per port?

465.3 | Assignable per pair. | CGOS01::DMARLOWE | dsk dsk dsk (tsk tsk tsk) | Wed Dec 22 1993 13:57 | 7 |
| I understand that the fiber ports will be in pairs, ie. 6 pairs.
You will be able to assign any individual "pair" to any channel.
This will give you six locations with Ethernet redundancy or 12
locations with 10Mb being shared to six groups of 2 locations per
group.
Hope this makes sense

465.4 | must be assigned in pairs | DELNI::GIUNTA | | Wed Dec 22 1993 14:39 | 6 |
| .3 is correct that the fiber ports must be assigned in pairs, so you
can have 1 pair of redundant ports on a segment or 2 individual ports
on that segment, but the pair has to be on the same segment. To make
this a little simpler when installing, the ports have been grouped in
pairs so that you can visually tell which ports go together on any
segment.

465.6 | availability and announcement | DELNI::GIUNTA | | Thu Jan 20 1994 15:06 | 7 |
| The DECrepeater 900FP and the DECrepeater 90FS (note this one is a 90
module) will be announced on Feb 8. Pricing will be active on the price
file on Feb 7 which is when orders can be placed. I've set the leadtime
to 90 days, so you'll see order confirmations out in May, but FCS will
be in April with volume availability around May, hence the long lead time.

465.7 | manual, management info ? | HGOVC::GUPTA | | Thu Jan 20 1994 20:45 | 21 |
| Ref .6:
Hi Cathy,
If DECrepeater 90FS is a 90 module then it will not be available in
DEChub ONE config. But what about the mangement of this module if
installed in DEChub 900 ? Can it be managed just like any other
DEChub900 modules i.e. HUB Manager being able to manage the unit ?
Somewhat old document I have mention this repeater to be 900FS capable
of being in DEChub ONE environment. But obviously all that has changed.
I am looking at this unit being capable of TWO FIBRE PORTS WITH
AUTOMATIC FAIL-OVER and management from HUB Manager. Do all these
features hold good ? How much time does it take to fail-over to the
backup fibre ?
Where can I find the manuals for DECrepeater 900FP and DECrepeater 90FS
?
Regards,
Gupta

The DECrepeater 90FS is a 90 module because it is in the MIN format. That
is, it's the same size as the other 90 modules and it will play in the
DEChub 90. In contrast to this, the Token Ring modules are 900 modules but
are in the MIN formfactor, but they do not play in the 90, so they are
called 900 modules to make the distinction. That way, you know that any
module with 90 in its name will play in the 90 as well as the 900. None
of the 90 modules play in the DEChub ONE docking station as that is only
for the larger MAX modules, but they still play stand-alone. In the case
of the the 90FS, it uses the same power supply as the bridge (H7827) and
the plastic back cover similar to the other 90 modules. All my new
repeaters, whether they are 90's or 900's, have an SNMP agent resident, so
they are manageable in both hubs or stand-alone. In fact, the repeaters
also have the necessary IP services which can be used for the hub.

The 90FS can be used stand-alone (see comments above). It has 2 fiber
ports with automatic failover in less than 100ms (same as Chipcom) as well
as an AUI port and a ThinWire port that is used to connect to the hub
but which can be used as a 4th port in stand-alone mode.
>Where can I find the manuals for DECrepeater 900FP and DECrepeater 90FS
?
The manuals will be put in the NAC::LENAC_USER:[NETWORKS.HUB.MANUALS] public
directory once they're finalized. For now, there are only draft copies
available which can be copied from TNPUBS::PUBLIC$DISK:[PUBLIC.ONEHUB].
Please note these are DRAFT copies only, so there are still changes happening
and information missing.

465.9 | 10BaseF & 10BaseFA compliant? | AUSSIE::SULLIVAN | i,ay? | Tue Sep 13 1994 02:34 | 7 |
| Does the DECrepeater 900FP comply with 10baseF and 10baseFA?
(I did a search for "10BaseFA", but couldn't find one reference
to it in either this conference, or the Ethernet conference.
May be it's a typo in our customer's specifications?)
Thanks,
Greg.

465.10 | 10BASE-FL | NETCAD::PAGLIARO | Rich Pagliaro, Hub Products Group | Mon Sep 19 1994 11:10 | 7 |
| The 10BASE-F standard comprises the 10BASE-FL, 10BASE-FB, and 10BASE-FP
specifications. I personnally have never heard of a 10BASE-FA
standard. The DECrepeater 900FP complies with the 10BASE-FL standard.

Rich
