449.1 | Sorry, but HUBwatch can't do that | SLINK::HOOD | I'd rather be surfing | Tue Oct 26 1993 10:27 | 12 |
| To do something like that (monitoring external equipment and catching or
generating traps and alarms), you really need to be using an NMS platform
like netview or mcc or whatnot. In the case of your UPS, if its software
generates error messages on its console, you might have to write a piece
of interface software to connect those events to your NMS (or maybe just
send mail on particular events).
But, that's all far beyond what HUBwatch is designed to do. We're having
way too much fun just trying to keep up with the hub products.

449.2 | I feel sorry, too!! | VAXRIO::CAMACHO | PCI Sales - Brazil | Tue Oct 26 1993 13:00 | 11 |
| Thanks Tom, for you kind answer.
I have to tell you, that I feel sorry, too.
However, one more question: Do you know if, in the particular case of a
DEChub900, is the battery backup status a monitorable item ??
Tnx,
Luis Camacho

449.3 | Power Monitoring | QUIVER::SLAWRENCE | | Tue Oct 26 1993 14:52 | 12 |
| At this time, the battery backup module that will plug into a normal
power supply slot is not available and is not supported by the rev 2.x
(FCS) versions of the management module firmware.
The status of the power supplies can be monitored through the chasPower
group in the chassis mib, and when the battery module becomes available
support for it should be available in the firmware.
In addition to the battery backup module, there is a connector for
external 48V power input, but its status is not directly reflected in
the chassis mib (I don't believe it is fully supported yet, pending
further field testing).
