424.0. "Interoperability ?" by LARVAE::HARVEY (Baldly going into the unknown...) Wed Oct 13 1993 13:41

   We're working on a proposal to install various DEChub products throughout
   several of the customer's sites, some of which are equipped with competitors
   hub products already. Buildings on each of the sites will be linked via
   fibre to a central "CONCEN" building. At each of the remote sites we will be
   presented with a pair of fibre STs to interface our kit onto.....

   Question is :-

   Do our fibre repeaters interoperate with other vendors' equivalents ?

   3rd party kit known about (so far - we're have site surveys in progress) are
   U-B Access/1 and 3COM (LinkBuilder ?).

   The customer is telling us that FOIRL is the signalling mechanism/standard
   in use, so I guess that's a good start. However, there are "standards" and
   there are "major installation problems" ! I'm seeking to avoid any of the
   latter well in advance.

   Anyone know of any tests we've done in this area ? Thinking about potential
   other 3rd parties being represented (at the other sites when we get around
   to them) do we have a full list of any interoperability work ?

   Thanks for ANY help

424.1No problems with UB Access/One hubsHGOVC::GUPTATue Oct 19 1993 04:5923
    Hi,

    I have worked with UB Acess/One hubs here in Hong Kong and there are no
    problems. In my case the config was -

    		90FL---------------FOT---UB-HUB

    			Where 90FL => DECrepeater 90FL
    			      FOT  => Fibre-optic Transceiver
    			      UB-HUB => Access/One

    Access/One have some cards names ASM500 and ASM700. These cards are
    supposed to provide fail-over recovery where ASM700 is supervisory and
    takes over in case ASM500 fails.

    Well in my case here, this fail-over does not work as UB had stated and
    UB is struggling to make it work for the last two months.

    No other problems were encounterd.

    Regards,
    Surender
