419.0. "Time Synchronisation" by ARRODS::KORMAND (tgif!!) Wed Oct 13 1993 05:33
The DEChub 900 has in internal TOD clock, I believe.
To meet an ITT, we have to provide a means of syncing the clocks on 22
hub900's to the network management system, which will be running across
two systems ( We need to use CableManager integrated with DECmcc,
which requires Ultrix, but the new HUBwatch isn't being supported/ported
to Ultrix, so we have to have a second, VMS based system and kluge them
to appear to work together - elegant, eh!).
One of the two systems will be a DTSS server, with a time provider linked
to the UK MSF Rugby time signal. The other will be a DTSS clerk. Which is
which depends on who we can find to code the TP module!
I don't believe the hub900 has a DTSS clerk in it (unfortunately). I'd
like to hear that I'm wrong, but if I'm not, can anyone suggest how we
might meet this requirement?
Thanks,
Dave
PS - the deal is worth about $750K, so we want to win!

419.1 | Sorry, no clocks | CHUNK::SLAWRENCE | | Wed Oct 13 1993 10:21 | 7 |
| I'm afraid that the DEChub900 has neither a clock of its own or any
other means of obtaining the time; it's only notion of time is the time
since it was last reset.
I'd appreciate hearing more on the requirements for syncronized clocks,
since the subject has come up - you can reach me by mail at
NEWHUB::LAWRENCE (I'm a consultant, so I don't appear in ELF).
