I have successfully used the DIS_PKT.GUP to coexist PATHWORKS with HUBWATCH using NDIS drivers for the DEPCA/Etherworks cards and for 3-COM cards. I believe from my reading that this is unsupported in V1.0 but should be supported in V1.1. I have today tried the Etherworks III NDIS driver (EWRK3.DOS V2.73.00) and find I can load it OK with PATHWORKS but if I load DIS_PKT.GUP and do a NETBIND then the PC hard hangs. I have tried playing with the s/w interrupt vector and the card settings but all make no difference. My questions therefore are: 1. Is this NDIS shim method supported in V1.1 2. Have engineering tested our newer Etherworks III cards and got it working ie have I missed something. 3. Given the public domain nature of much of the HUBWATCH stuff what mechanisms are there for fixing things like this. (excuse this question if it is stupid but I am not involved in the HUBWATCH product area and don't know the processes in place). 4. The WINDOWS_SETUP.TXT file in NAC::MANAGEMENT: points to a HUBWATCH install manual called WINDOWS_MANUAL.PS at the same location. This file does not exist - can I get a pointer to it? Regards Andrew

1. NDIS shim is not "supported" any more in 1.1 than it was in 1.0. However, we have found many people like yourself who have used it and found that it works. We do not have the resources to "support" the shim, since HUBwatch for Windows 1.0 and 1.0 is a buy out and the vendor does not really support the Clarkson drivers (and their shims). All that is changing with HUBwatch for Windows 2.0 which will be done by DEC and will support WINsockets. 2. There are no drivers that we have found for the newer Etherworks III cards, and, as you can see form the above, we are not in a position to work on this. Let us know if you find any packet drivers that work. 3. The mechanism for fixing this is getting the development in house. see #1. 4. Sorry- name change to WINDOWS.MAN
403.2 | Are there ANY drivers that support DE422 or EWRK3 | SCOBIE::JCUTCHIN | Mon Oct 11 1993 11:12 | 25
I have a customer that purchased Hubwatch for Windows and he has a DE422 EISA NIC in one machine (DELL 450) and a EWRK3 DE204 in a DECpc 433DX. I can NOT get the DEPCA packet driver (DEPCA.COM) to work with either module. I have not yet tried the NDIS shim (DIS_PKT.GUP) on either module yet, but from the previous reply it would appear that this will not work with the EWRK3 NIC. SO... 1. Can i get ANYTHING to work with an EWRK3 NIC and Hubwatch for Windows V1.1 ? (DECagent 90 is V1.1, all DECbridge 90's are at V3.1) 2. For the DE422, should the DEPCA packet driver work O.K? It recognizes the NIC when it loads and reports the Ethernet address correctly, but I can't get it to successfully PING any known working entity. Also, as stated earlier, I have not yet tried to use the NDIS shim with the NDIS driver for this module. The customer would like for Hubwatch for Windows to run concurrently with Pathworks for DOS V4.1-A client, but this is not a definite requirement at this time. He just wants it to work with SOMETHING !! Thanks in advance for any help on these issues. Jim
403.3 | EWRK3.DOS V2.76 Fixes This Bug | GIDDAY::RALLINGS | Tue Nov 02 1993 05:47 | 15
Firstly EWRK3.DOS v2.76 was just sent to me and fixes the bug with NETBIND hanging with DIS_PKT.GUP. The currently released EWRK3.DOS is V2.74 and the V2.76 is a FT version only. Publicly available drivers for Etherworks II and Etherworks III cards are avilable from KALI::PCDRIVERS:. For the Etherworks III there is a ZIP called EWRK3V21.ZIP which contains the V2.74 EWRK3.DOS and the V2.76 in a fieldtest directory inside the ZIP. As for the previous note. I have used both DEPCA.COM and DEPCA.DOS successfully with a DE202. The DE422 contains the same NIC chipset and uses the same drivers. It should work but I haven't tried it. Regards Andrew |
