I have a cutomer which will have a configuration built around 30 DEChubs. Which plateform for HUBwatch will be suitable (from performance standpoint) for the management of these DEChubs - Ulrix or VAX ? I have a feeling that DOS will not give good performance. How many DECagents should be configured in the network ? Regards, Surender

If these are all DEChub 90's, then you can use VMS, ULTRIX, or Windows. Keep in mind that V1.1 was the last release on ULTRIX though; the next Unix-like release will be on OSF/Alpha in the spring. You should be able to manage the 30 hubs using Windows without performance problems. The number of DECagents depends on the configuration/topology of the network. You'll need a DECagent per 8 single hubs or 4 double hubs, assuming they are all on the same LAN with the DECagent. If there are routers in the way, then you need a DECagent on the same LAN as the hub that's on the other side of the router. If you go with ULTRIX, you might also want to consider adding Polycenter SNMP Manager 300 - it has a 100 node max license for $3K. Or you might want to consider the Polycenter Network Manager framework at $1K. | |||||
