334.0. "Parallel Printer Server for DEChub" by DV780::SMITHR () Thu Aug 12 1993 21:09

    I don't knoe if such a device is available or is in the works, but do
    we have a printserver device that can handle a parallel printer such as
    an LP37 or LG06 for the DEChub? Some of my fellow Customer Services
    Engineer's and a few customers have commented that susch a device would
    be nice.

    	I know that the DECserver 250 does the trick for thickwire
    ethernet, and it can be adapted to function on a thinwire net. There
    is also a device for serial printers for the DEChub (LATprint I think).

    	However, our discussions have concluded that it would be great if you
    could plug in a module into the DEChub that would provide access to a
    parallel line printer.

    If we don't make such a device, how does one approach the powers that
    be on looking into building one? It could be called DECprintserver 90.

    Just a thought who's time may have come,

334.1Update the parallel printers, or use ThinWireMSDOA::REEDJohn Reed @CBO, DTN:367-6463, KB4FFE, SouthEastFri Aug 13 1993 12:4611
    You can adapt the DECserver 250 to your DEChub's ThinWire LAN, by using
    a ThinWire transceiver attached to the DECserver's 15-pin AUI port. I
    would suggest the DEXCM-AA AUI to ThinWire adapter.

    I think that most customers with hubs would want to run standard
    EIA/TIA 568 media to the faceplate from the hub location. This leaves
    the old parallel printer cables out in the cold. Upgrade your
    printers to serial, and plan to purchase Ethernet direct-connect
    printers (AUI, Thin, or UTP) for futures.
