328.0. "dechub mgmt" by TMAWKO::PRESSLEY (pin heads are people too...) Thu Aug 05 1993 15:39

In order to manage the dechub 900, are customers required to use SNMP?
If the answer is no then are features lost be using the alternative means
of management?

328.1SNMP is a requirement to manage the DEChub 900NAC::FORRESTMon Aug 09 1993 13:1813
	Yes, SNMP is the only management protocol spoken by the DEChub 900
	Hub Manager. A few modules may have other protocols besides
	SNMP; e.g. the DECserver 900TM also supports MOP, thus allowing
	management via TSM. Only SNMP is planned for the majority of
	modules however, including repeaters, bridges, FDDI concentrators,
	and Token Ring MAUs.

	In a future firmware release, we plan to put in more console
	functionality, but only enough to allow the user to do some gross
	level troubleshooting.

	Do you envision a customer being reluctant to managing via SNMP?
328.2TMAWKO::PRESSLEYpin heads are people too...Tue Aug 10 1993 10:252
The customer uses DECnet and is apprehensive about having to support TCP/IP
as well albeit in just management mode.
