Joe,
I am the product manager for the DEChub 900 TR products. Please see MB>>
below for my comments. Let me know how we can help. /Mike

Hi all,
I need some help with Token Ring on the 900 please - I assume this is
the right conference - if not please can someone point me in the right
direction!.
I am configuring a large network using a Fibre TR backbone, and a fibre
Ethernet backbone based on 900's, and 90's. I am happy with the
Ethernet configuration, but the TR I am not so confident about, please
can someone check this for me?.
I have proposed a DTFOR (DECrepeater 900-08) Fibre Optic TR repeater in
each DEChub 900 location to connect them together. This will use one of
the TR channels on the backplane.
MB>> This is a valid configuration. Note: New product name = DECrepeater 900FL
MB>> Availability will be mid to late Q2FY94.
In the backplane I have configured a
DECagent 900RA (TR Agent) at each location for management.
MB>> DECagent 900RA is for ring management. "Basic management" can be obtained
MB>> through the DEChub 900 management module itself. The DECagent 900RA gets
MB>> you beacon detection and ring map. The DEChub 900 backplane managhement
MB>> module will give you an ability to turn a port off.
Also where
the customer wants just MAU connections I have proposed the DTMAU
(DECwirecenter 900-01) 8 port MAU.
MB>> Valid. New name: DECmau 900TL
Where he has existing IBM 8228 MSAU's and wants to join these to the
DEChub TR I have proposed DTMAP (DECmau 900TL) which I understand will
allow other MAU's to 'hang off'. What I'm not sure of is if this will
work - do the IBM MSAU's connect via their RI connector to the DTMAP
module, if so how does the ring form?.
MB>> [SOmeone please correct me if I'm wrong on this, but...] maus can
MB>> daisy chained (i.e. the maus lower in the tree connected to the lobe
MB>> port of the mau above) or connected via RI/RO (which extends ring
MB>> distance somewhat). A DECmau 900TL (DTMAU) will allow both these
MB>> functions. A DTMAP (DECmau 900TC) adds value is passing management
MB>> signals through its lobe ports to DECmau 900TLs. I do not believe the
MB>> 8228 can recognize the managament signals, so it doesn't get you anything
MB>> to use a DTMAP.
MB>> Availability: DECmau 900TL (DTMAU) 1-AUG-93
MB>> DECmau 900TC (DTMAP) mid-late Q2FY94
MB>> DECagent 900RA (DTNMA) Late Q3/early Q4 FY94
If anyone can tell me where there are some doc's for the DEChub 900 TR
modules I would appreciate that also.
MB>> I'll ask for draft copies of available docs to be sent to you.
MB>> please let me know re: any questions.
Thanks in anticipation,
Joe Frost
