249.0. "DECserver 90M - Configured in HubWatch(VMS/Ultrix)" by BELMNT::BEAZLEY () Wed May 26 1993 15:19

I was told that a DECserver 90M, unlike the DECserver 90TL, is compatible
with and can be managed by the DEChub 90 backplane protocol. Unfortunately,
I have not been able to add the DECserver 90M. I do know that the unit is
being polled and is seen by the DECagent 90 but, it appears as an unknown
   module. Questions:

Can someone please relay the correct procedure for adding a DECserver 90M
   to HUBwatch(VMS/Ultrix?)

   Also,

Does anyone know the time frame that the DECservers 90M & 90TL are
scheduled to be managed by HUBwatch for WINDOWS (DOS?)

   AS well,

When I add a DECserver 90TL module to an exisiting HUB community, I add
with polling disabled (as the documentation prescribes) and WA..LA.. a
90TL appears but, if I leave the community then return no DECserver. What
   am I doing wrong?

                        Regards,

                          Bob

Bob,

DECserver90M's
--------------
The DECserver90M is "officially" not supported in HUBwatch V1.1 for ULTRIX
and OpenVMS. However, it is supported by the DECagent90 1.1 firmware. So,
you can see it at the console, but not in HUBwatch. The DECserver90M is
scheduled to be supported in HUBwatch 2.0.

Unofficially, there is a way to manage 90M's with 1.1 of HUBwatch... Using
HUBwatch, delete the "?" module, then VERY QUICKY add the 90M as a 90TL, with
slot polling disabled. Voila, instant management of a DS90M. Keep in mind
that for the time being, 90M's are not supported by HUBwatch. But, I've been
doing this in our lab for months and haven't seen any problems.

Mysteriously vanishing 90TLs
-----------------------------
If it was added with slot polling disabled, the DECserver90TL's should not
disappear because you switch communities. If you're getting an empty slot,
it sounds like maybe your agent is not feeling well. If you're getting a 90TL
bezel, but can't talk to it, then you haven't added the 90TL to your agents
file. Otherwise, nothing short of (a) deleting the module (b) resetting the
DECagent to factory defaults or (c) not making sure slot polling is disabled
will make the TL disappear. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful on this one.

249.2When Windows will support TL and MEMDS::SEAVERBill Seaver, HUBwatch MktgThu Jun 03 1993 00:133
HUBwatch for Windows will "support" the 90TL and 90M in V1.1 (August
1993). "Support"= HUBview and SNMP sets and gets. Graphical support
like in HUBwatch for VMS 1.1 will be available in V2.0 (December 1993).
