234.0. "Server security" by ZUR01::SCHNEIDERR () Mon May 10 1993 10:51

Hello,

I can't change any characteristics on a DS90xx. I think it has to do with the
priv password. How does this work? I can't find any parameter where I can set
the priviledged password for the servers in HUBwatch. Do I use the priv password?

Depending on the type of ds90 you've got, you might want to try these things:

DS90L, 90L+, or 90L++:
	- Make sure the server is NOT in authorize/manage mode. If it is,
	  you won't be able to set anything with HUBwatch. Also make sure
	  you're using the read-write community string for your DECagent.

DS90TL, 90M:
	- Make sure the server is SNMP SET enable, and that you're using
	  the read-write community string for the DECserver90TL.

Tom,

Thaks for your answer.

Sorry to say that, but we can't use this. I can't tell a customer to set his
serviers not in authorize/manage mode. Nobody will do that, because everybody
could modigy any parameter in this mode.
Will there be a other solution very soon availible?

Problem understood. I think I've now got a solution for authorize mode
that should be in HUBwatch V2.0 later this summer. Until then, unfortunetly,
what's in .1 applies.

Thanks Tom,

That is o.k. for us. I hope I'm not the only one, but I think we must implement
this. So we will look forward and stay tuned for V2.0.
