205.2 | Documentation and examples misleading? | ANGLIN::ORTHOBER | | Tue Apr 20 1993 18:58 | 17 |

Wow, the customer is not going to be
happy when I have to inform him of this.
It is not documented in the handbook that
comes with the fiber repeater as far as I
could see (I looked quickly) and examples
in the Sales Update show the fiber repeater
in other slots.
So, if the customer wants to put a bridge,
agent, and repeater, he is stuck right?
The agent has to live in slot 7 with the
bridge in 8 correct?
thanks

205.3 | 90 Hub Bus Master Bridges only? | ANGLIN::ORTHOBER | | Tue Apr 20 1993 18:59 | 7 |

Also, does this mean that the fiber repeater is
a "bus master". If not then the only bus masterss
at the present time are bridges, correct?
thanks

205.4 | DEChub 90 bus masters are... | CGOS01::DMARLOWE | dsk dsk dsk (tsk tsk tsk) | Wed Apr 21 1993 12:31 | 10 |
| The DECrepeater 90FA is not a bus master. The DECbridge 90/90FL
are presently the only bus masters. The DECagent, in a future release
of firmware will be able to be bus master, when plugged into the
hub, without having a DECbridge 90 in the hub.
Any module that has an AUI port needs to be in slots 7 or 8. The
DEChub 900, whenever it comes out 8^( 8^(, will not have that
restriction.

205.5 | How about the DECrepeater 90FA if you're not using the AUI port | BSS::AMBER | Mark Amber, CXO3 LAN Mgr. (DTN)592-4645 | Thu Apr 22 1993 13:43 | 18 |
| OK, let me see if I understand this...
in an earlier note, it was stated that slots 7 and 8 have an extra 12v
which is needed for devices with an AUI port. (Further witnessed by the
two different power supplies that come with different table-top modules).
And this discussion points out that the Agent and the three other modules
with AUI ports must go in slots 7 or 8, not to be buss master, but because
they have an AUI port. Also, the DECrepeater 90FL (no AUI port) is valid
in any slot.
SO, my question is:
1) Will a DECrepeater 90FA work in any slot if you don't need to use
the AUI port?
2) Why doesn't the H8727-AA power supply, which comes with DENMA-AA and
has 5v and 12v not work with 90C, 90FL, 90TL, et.al. which only require
the 5v

205.6 | AUI cannot be turned off | EMDS::SEAVER | Bill Seaver, HUBwatch Mktg | Thu May 27 1993 22:47 | 7 |
| 1. As far as I know 90 FA will only work in 12V slots (7&8). there is
no way to turn off the AUI port. (Switches cost money and are
unreliable)
2. Last time I asked the same question (no you are not crazy!), I was
told the 5v in each supply is not the same. One is 5.3v and that makes
all the difference (seriously).

205.7 | 90FA works in other slots | BSS::AMBER | Mark Amber, CXO3 LAN Mgr. (DTN)592-4645 | Wed Jun 02 1993 16:25 | 4 |
| I can't speak officially, but the 90FA does work in any slot as long as
you don't use the AUI port. But, if you're only using the fiber port
(and the backplane/thinwire port) then it seems to work fine. I have
serveral dozen working this way.

205.8 | I was wrong in .6 | EMDS::SEAVER | Bill Seaver, HUBwatch Mktg | Wed Jun 02 1993 23:44 | 1 |
| I was wrong in .6. Fiber will work in any port. AUI only in 7 or 8.
