197.0. "Adv MSU Training April 21-23 @PKO3" by PASHUN::PUOPLO () Mon Apr 05 1993 11:14

The development group for the POLYCENTER SNMP Manager (aka MSU) is offering an
advanced training class on their 1.2 release for the network partners on
Wednesday 4/21 thru Friday 4/23 over at PKO3 in Maynard. There is room for
ten more folks. If interested, contact me asap @ SISE::PUOPLO or dtn 276-9068.

There is no charge for this training, since it is mainly hand-ons use of MSU
while guided by several folks from the development group. We only have
10 workstations and the class is limited in size to 30 people. So far we have
20 registered; only 10 more open slots.

If you cannot attend the advance training, but would like to play with
MSU 1.2, we are tentatively having an open house on Saturday 4/24 at the PKO3
classroom with the several msu workstations available for general play.
If interested in attending the Saturday open house, I need to know asap.

For the training, folks will be divided into groups with their own MSU
system. There will be plenty of folks around from the development group,
so folks who want to can wander from the following set agenda:

Wednesday, April 21 focus will be on:
           - description of what MSU script does, common gotchas,
and nmsadmin to define user privilege
           - architectural overview and explanation of useable processes
           - overview of MSU's database schema
           - Map operations, customization, and expansion

Thusday, April 22 will mainly focus on msu usage:
           - autotopology and recommend usage
           - using the mib compiler
           - proactive management of 3rd party lab via mibs
(emphasis will be on MIB-II, RMON, and Cisco private MIB)
           - unattended operations via thresholding and reporting

Friday, April 23 will mainly focus on:
           - SQL usage and maintenance
           - using ESQL compiler (create custom reports)
           - using MSU's SNMP API (create own NMS applications)
