171.0. "Latest Version of DS90TL Software" by RDGENG::GREID (So Far. So Good, So What ?) Thu Feb 25 1993 06:10

    Can anyone tell me what the latest version of DECserver 90 Software
    around is? The DS90TL's we have here either have V1.0 BL34-10 or
    V1.1 BL44-10. What version does the software have to be before the
    DECservers appear as visible on the Backplane of a DECHUB ?

    Thanks,

    Giles.

    Does anyone know the difference between the MNENG1.SYS and MNENG2.SYS
    files that installed with the kit NA9010, eg which should the DS90TL's
    load ?

    Cheers,
    Giles.

    You need the BL44
171.3The "fix" hasn't hit the street yet...NAC::D_NELSONDave Nelson LKG2-2/BB9 226-5358Fri Feb 26 1993 14:1736
    RE: various

    I want to clear up some confusion about the DS90TL software and the
    backplane management protocol.

    In another note, it was stated that DS90TL with 4 MB of memory has the
    fixes. Not quite true. 4 MB of memory is necessary, but not
    sufficient. (At this moment - see below)

    None of the shipping software versions have the fix. Not even BL44.
    V1.1 BL44 is the latest shipping software release for the DS90TL.

    The software that does have the fix is going to SSB next week. This
    new software, it turns out, requires 4 MB of memory. The additional
    memory has nothing to do with the backplane protocol fixes, but rather
    all the added functionality.

    At some point (especially if there is much griping) we could issue a
    patch or maintenance release based on the BL44 1 MB image that would
    include the backplane code. It's more a matter of managing the code
    base, rather than technical issues here. The BL44 image will be the
    last major release that will fit in 1 MB. Anything based on BL44 will
    be bugfixes only.

    It should also be noted that the DS90TL firmware has always had
    sufficient backplane management protocol support to allow automatic
    discovery. If you have a DS90TL, in the hub, stuck in a MOP downline
    load state (e.g. looking for a non-existant load image) it will appear
    to the automatic discovery code in the DECagent 90, et. al. Then the
    DS90TL will "disappear" once software is sucessfully loaded.

    Regards,

    Dave

171.4Can I load DS90TL Software by osf/1 ?TLAV01::WITTAYAJFri Dec 17 1993 01:481

There is no kit for OSF/1 for DS90TL software. There is a Network Access
Software kit for OSF/1. This software will run on a DS90TL with 4meg memory.
You also could get a DS90TL software image and put it manually on the OSF/1
system and setup the OSF/1 system to use MOP or BOOTP to load the DS90TL.
171.6In a way, we *do* have an OSF/1 kit for DS90TL...TOOK::D_NELSONDave Nelson LKG1-3/A11 226-5358Fri Dec 17 1993 12:4117
    RE: .4, .5

    The latest patch (BL44G) of the 1 MB software for DS90TL, which is the
    MNENG1 image, ships as part of the DECserver Network Access Software.
    There is a DEC OSF/1 Kit for V1.3 of that software. If you install it,
    you install both the new Network Access Software and the older
    DECserver software, and DS90TL can load either MNENG1 or MNENG2 (the 4 MB
    software). The only caveat is that the V1.3 OSF/1 kit is set up for
    BOOTP loading only (MOP is an *option* for OSF1/, which we don't
    currently support).

    Regards,

    Dave

re:.6

Thanks Dave, I was unaware that the MNENG1 image was shipping with the NA
software.
