61.1 | DECbrouter and DECbridge 90 are probably interchangeable for backplane management | MEMIT::FORREST | | Fri Sep 25 1992 10:28 | 10 |
| Our intentions are to have the DECbrouter 90 manage the backplane. Thus
it would poll the slots to identify modules and determine repeater port
status. I'm not sure yet, whether we will be able to match MAC addresses
to repeaters ports as well as we do with the DECbridge 90.
The first rev of the DECWANrouter 90 will not manage the backplane.
The next rev of the DECagent 90 will manage the backplane.

61.2 | update on BRUT capabilities | NOHOST::LEVIN | Bryan, LENaC Engineering, MLO3-3/U39 | Wed Oct 07 1992 20:36 | 12 |

Unfortunately, the BRUT will only manage repeaters. Only enough of the
Dh90 slot table to deal with minimal repeater management. Period.
At least, that's what I gather after working with the engineer at cisco
who is doing the snmp/mib work on the BRUT out there.
Too bad. Plan on having the DECagent 90 around for pots and wgb (and
others, perhaps) management, even if a BRUT is in the hub.

61.3 | BRUT manage brouter as well? | GLDOA::MORRISON | Dave | Thu Jan 14 1993 14:02 | 3 |
| Will the BRUT allow management of the DECbrouter itself? Can I remote
manage brouter and repeaters with only a hubwatch pc (or Ultrix) at central
site routed to remotes via NIS 600 to brouter?

61.4 | Brouter can manage itself | EMDS::SEAVER | LENAC Net Mgnt Mktg 223-4573 | Sun Jan 17 1993 20:59 | 3 |
| I just answerd this in note 55. Brouter (also called BRUT) has
integral SNMP agent and will manage itself over the WAN. Repeaters can
be managed if they are in the same hub as the brouter or an agent.

61.5 | DECbrouter 90 - GETS vs SETS | MEMIT::FORREST | | Wed Jan 20 1993 14:42 | 4 |

As I understand it, the DECbrouter 90 will only support SNMP SETS,
and you have to TELNET in or download a configuration file to
actually change parameters.
