People have asked for 'graphs' in netmgt products. Can you suggest some _good_ uses for them? I want to start the ball rolling, so that future versions of hubwatch can incorporate them. Are there good graphics packages for Motif? (If not, I'll have to write new routines). I am thinking of the 3-d graphs (bar, histograms, etc) that I saw on a Sun, for example. But, I don't want to include things "just because" - I want to know that there is a real need/use for such a graph. So, if you've seen something on another platform (or can invent some new ideas), please let me know via replies to this note. Also, if possible, I'd like to see photocopies of existing graphs (color, if possible) if you have any that you really like. thanks, .bl

35.1 | 'interactive' plot graphs? | NOHOST::LEVIN | Bryan, LENaC Engineering, MLO3-3/U39 | Tue Mar 03 1992 08:56 | 17 |
Another item RE: .1 - Has anyone seen any 'interactive' graphs? By this, I mean that you can actually _operate_ on the graph, not just view it. For example, you might want to plot, protocol traffic through a bridge by protocol type. Then, the user might be able to 'stretch' or 'drag' on some hotspots on the graph, to change the filtering behavior of the bridge. (Note: this could also embody 'simulation' techniques, even _before_ actually setting any values on the real device. But this is quite a ways away from the current plans...) Anyway, has anyone ever seen anything like this? Would it sell? Is it too radical? Dump some ideas/feedback on me ... .bl |
