32.1 | More info on AppleTalk filtering | RANGER::DITOMMASO | A man's got to know his limitations | Wed Feb 26 1992 01:41 | 16 |
|
The Protocols I was given to filter to AppleTalk are the following.
The protocol types (they're really 802 SNAP SAPs) to filter are:
08-00-07-80-9B
and 00-00-00-80-F3
However when I try to set these in the DECbridge 90 it seems to
reverse the last two hex numbers.
I enter DEFINE PROTOCOL 1 FILTER ALL 08-00-07-80-9B but then when I
do a SHOW PROTOCOL is shows protocol 1 to be 08-00-07-9B-80.
Any suggestions???

| That's news to me, I thought the bug was in SET, not DEFINE, and that it
was the second pair, not the last pair...

well, you could be right it was a while since I tried this.
I also need to know the protocol types to filter IPX.
Thanks,

32.4 | NOVELL 802.3 == proprietary | CGOS01::DMARLOWE | PDP 11: MOV -(PC),-(PC) | Wed Feb 26 1992 18:05 | 11 |
| If its Novell's Ethernet II protocol 81-37 then the bridge can filter
or forward just fine. If its their attempt at implementing 802.3
then the answer is no way. Novell doesn't implement 802.2 headers
so the bridge can't do anything about it. In fact any non-compliant
802.3 frames are automatically forwarded by the bridge. Its to
prevent equipment with incomplete 802.3 implementations from being
cutoff at the bridge.
See note 960 in the ETHERNET notes file for more details.

32.5 | known protocol types (listing) | NOHOST::LEVIN | Bryan, LENaC Engineering, MLO3-3/U39 | Wed Feb 26 1992 19:43 | 12 |
| RE: the list of proto types:
I am in the process of getting the 'releasable' values known to DEC
(and the other one's we know about).
I need this for the HUBwatch graphical interface. I will compile this
into an ascii file, that will be input into the MSU and MCC databases.
There are issues about disclosure, that I'm not fully up on, yet. But,
I'll keep you posted ...
