52.0. "sponsor connection. How should it really work?" by NNTPD::"[email protected]" (erwin kneuts) Tue Apr 22 1997 10:51

Hi,

I'm prepping for my SNA server exam, and bumped into a discussion how a client

server connection is set up. There seems to be some difference between the
SNA server 2.11 planning guide and the 2.11 study guide.

According to study guide:

for netware client to sna server:

(SNA server gets registered in bindery on Netware server)
-NW client requests SNA server to NW server.
-NW Server gives list of SNA servers
-NW client contacts one of the SNA servers at random.
-If requested resource available on SNA server --> connection established.
- If requested resource NOT available, then SNA server responds with name of
server where the resource is available.
-NW client connects to final SNA server.

According to planning guide:

(SNA server gets registered in bindery on Netware server)
-NW client requests SNA server to NW server.
-NW Server gives list of SNA servers
-NW client contacts one of the SNA servers at random.
-If requested resource available on SNA server --> connection established.
- If requested resource NOT available, then SNA server responds with name of
  other SNA servers.
-NW client connects to SNA server at random and retries until a server is
found
which can fulfill the service request. (Which is also the behaviour for named

 pipes clients)

What is the correct version (if any?)
What is the version they expect on the Exam ? :-)
