I have a customer that has a 9GB information store. Does anybody know how long it will take to upgrade the system to version 5? The information store is different so something mut happen. The real question is can this Alpha1000 and its 9GB information store be upgraded overnight? Any thoughts? R. Michael Williams

On a standby Alpha 2100 (dual 195 Mhz, 640MB), I restored the customer's 6.2GB database and upgraded to WinNT V4.0 SP2 and Exchange V5.0. The whole process (excluding the restore) from start to finish was 8 hours with 6 hours for Exchange database conversion. I would imagine that the rate of conversion is going to play heavily with the type of disks and controllers on the system since I observed continuously flashing drive lights. The above system was configured with a PCI-based SWXCR RAID controller and 4.3GB drives. PRIV.EDB was stored on a hardware-hosted RAID5 partition. I hope this helps, Dave | |||||

Microsoft suggest 1 hour per gig for the database conversion. I had hoped it would go faster on the Alphas. Oh well. |
