1077.0. "date not filled in when message gets sent" by CSC32::J_RYER (MCI Mission Critical Support Team) Thu May 22 1997 17:16

If I connect offline to Outlook, compose a message (which will be
sitting in my Outbox), and later connect to the server, the message
does get sent as the folders are synchronized.

However, no "received" date gets filled in (it just says "None"),
and so when I move such a message to one of my archival folders, it
sorts at the bottom of the list, rather than in chronological order
corresponding to when it was actually sent. If I pull up the full text
of the message, the header on the Outlook screen does show a sent time
(which is actually the time that I clicked "Send" while offline).

Is there some option that I can turn on that would cause the date/time
the message was sent from the Outbox to get filled in?

Or am I just not following the correct procedure? If I want to type
messages while offline, and have them automatically sent next time
I connect to the server, what is the recommended way to do that?

    Thanks,
    Jane Ryer

1077.1Try F5 and see if it works betterBBRDGE::LOVELL l'eau; c'est l'heureThu May 22 1997 18:1520
    Jane,

I don't know about the "recommended" way but one thing I would try is
to use the "check for New Mail" function rather than the "Synchronize"
function and see if it behaves differently.

I think you will find that "Check New Mail" (use F5 key) causes an
explicit connect to server, send Outbox, move to Sent, receive new
Inbox sequence of events. This is a whole lot simpler and quicker than
"Synchronize" and is ideal for Offline working.

Obviously you will also have to run a synchronize from time to time but
a lot less frequently than Outbox/Inbox refresh. You needn't link your
    synchronization with your message Sending.

This sequence works extremely well for me. Tip : Keep your Inbox
fairly clean i.e. move Read mails to another folder otherwise the cycle
time is longer than it needs to be.
