1070.0. "long time to synch "Organization Forms"" by CSC32::J_RYER (MCI Mission Critical Support Team) Mon May 19 1997 18:50

I sometimes dial-in via RAS from my laptop to read my Exchange mail.
I've checked the box for "when online, synchronize all folders upon
exiting", and this works fine, except for one glitch . . .

The last step in synchronizing (before it writes out the log file)
is "Synchronizing Organization Forms". This step often takes many
times as long as the whole rest of the synchronization process.

For example, here are the timestamps from a recent synchronization log:

    12:49:34 Synchronizing Mailbox 'Jane Ryer'
    12:49:34 Synchronizing Hierarchy
    12:49:35 Synchronizing Favorites
    12:49:35 Synchronizing Folder 'Inbox'
    12:50:09	20 items(s) added to offline folder
    12:50:09 Synchronizing Folder 'Outbox'
    12:50:12 Synchronizing Folder 'Sent Items'
    12:50:12 Synchronizing Folder 'Calendar'
    12:50:13 Synchronizing Folder 'Contacts'
    12:50:14 Synchronizing Folder 'Journal'
    12:50:15 Synchronizing Folder 'Notes'
    12:50:15 Synchronizing Folder 'Tasks'
    12:50:16 Synchronizing Folder 'Digital'
    12:50:16 Synchronizing Folder 'MCI'
    12:50:16 Synchronizing Folder 'Training'
    12:50:17 Synchronizing Folder 'Deleted Items'
    12:50:18 Synchronizing Views
    12:50:19 Synchronizing Organization Forms
    12:54:38 Done

It's very irritating to see the process zip through all of the folders
in less than a minute, but then take what seems to be an excessively
long time (four minutes in the example above!) to finish synchronizing
"Organization Forms", whatever they are! On the occasions when I'm
dialing into the Exchange Server via long distance, it also seems to me
that it would add up for Digital to be paying for five times as long a
connection as is needed. (I just dial in, synchronize the folders,
hang up and read the mail offline.)

What in the world are "Organization Forms" ? Do I need to synchronize
them? If not, is there something I can set so that they don't get
    synchronized every time I exit?

    Thanks for any advice,
    Jane Ryer

I don't know, but mine *never* get sync'd. I've asked about this
before in the conference, with no answer. Here's what I always get
in my log:

16:08:33 Synchronizing Organization Forms
16:08:49 Error synchronizing folder
16:08:49 [8004011D-511-0-0]
16:08:49 The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server
computer has failed.
16:08:49 Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store

I'm using ALFEXC1 as my exchange server and get this both on my
in-office on-the-Easynet PC and my at-home dialed-in-via-RAS PC.

It works for me - the first time took a while to synch "Organization Forms",
but no noticeable time on subsequent runs.
