1052.1 | You need a tie breaker... | DYPSS1::YINGLING | Dave (N8UTX), NSIS, Dayton, OH USA | Fri May 02 1997 22:52 | 12 |
| Stephen,
It has been my experience that the Exchange directory will never permit
duplicate X.400 and SMTP addresses. I don't think that you can change this
behavior since that would be contrary to X.400/X.500 standards (globally
unique addresses). Adding a "tie breaker" (i.e, a number like you suggest
is the work around.

| Dave,
I realise that Exchange won't allow it, my question is that can I configure
the way Exchange implements this "Tie Breaker". Currently If I have two names
the same Exchange will create the following SMTP adresses
stephen.craike@domain
stephen.craike2@domain
the 2 is a bit messy can I alter the may Exchange handles this.

1052.3 | Some control is better than none... | DYPSS1::YINGLING | Dave (N8UTX), NSIS, Dayton, OH USA | Wed May 07 1997 12:41 | 11 |
| Stephen,
I'm sorry I didn't understand your question. The only control that I know
of for the generation of SMTP addresses is documented in Microsoft's
Knowledge Base Article Q153270. If you don't have a TechNet CD, you can
access this document at http://www.microsoft.com/kb .

Dave

| Dave,
Thanks for the response, I had come accross this article previously,
unfortunately it only outlines what to do initially not if there is a
duplicate.
Thanks Again
